I have a question to ask you all.

Say I were to start a tiny hosting company that offered two plans, a free one, and a small paid one. The paid one would cost like $1 a month and would get you a few decent features. Nothing too fancy though.

The free one would just be like 2Gb storage and 50Gb bandwidth, nothing fancy either.

How much do you think that would cost to run it from my house with equipment?

You will never be able to do it from your home, Home internet can not be used even if you did get say a dedicated internet line or something put to your house and got like a GBPS connection you would next need to setup some sort of ddos protection. With the cost of servers and routers (and then a place to store these things, these do not store in your bedroom, they need to be in say your basement or garage as they make TONS of noise) it isn't worth it to do it at home, just to an internet plan will cost you hundreds of dollars, never mind the equipment.

Doing it at home is not an option. Reselling is.

If you are talking about web hosting though, there are already free web hosts out there (and some which beat your $1 plan)

Also setting this all up yourself (on a dedicated machine to be resold) isn't really much of an option either, unless you want to set everything up and then let something terrible happen with security where like files and information get leaked.

I sorta wanted to start a hosting company. But seeing all these companies in the hosting section is a true competition. And half don't even know about MCM if you type in Google server hosting. It also requires a lot of work. And 1 screw up could make your host at risk. So I decide to let go of that dream.
Yeah trying to compete with all the other services will be hard so I suggest not to and continue doing something else since the internet if full of possibilities gl :)

Hey there :) If this is something you would like to consider,
I offer reseller web hosting starting at $1 / month.

You can view all of the plans here: https://hosting.supertolerator.com/reseller

I also have a few addons, such as the option to use a dedicated IP for an extra $2 / month.
If you have any questions, please feel free to PM me or add me on skype at theocjskype
