DEALS VIA SKYPE:
First off, about 90% of scams are done thru skype, and many of them are from skype impersonators. If you do not want to get scammed you got to confirm that it is not an impersonator by asking the user to PM you on this website confirming that it is really them you are talking to, this message could also be VERY handy if you get scammed for when you are filling out a scam report so the user can not deny its not their skype account. (This is how MANY scammers get away with skype scams)
I have a couple impersonators of myself, and it really disappoints me that people like to impersonate other users and lark on this forum looking for people to scam.
Another tip would be not to just say your skype name in a public thread. For example 'I will buy this my skype is shatteredmines' doing that any random person can add you and say that they are the seller and the scam you. If you want to buy something and you want the user to add you on skype, private message them your skype so then no one else can see it... If you are going to buy something off of someone the only person who needs to know your skype is the person you are buying it off of. MOST importantly, know if the deal should be done over skype. Like if you are going to add the person just to text message them, the same exact thing could be done via private messaging on this website. Only use skype if you are going to participate in a call with them. Doing deals on here via PM is one of the best ways to avoid skype scammers, and having the conversation done by private messaging on these forums eliminates impersonators, and the fact people can deny that was their skype account you were talking to.
POINTING OUT FISHY USERS:
Normally you can point out a fishy user just by doing some research on them... Just because a user says they will give you a deal that is twice as good as what you originally wanted (or something that sounds too good to be true) It probably isn't true. Before you do any deals with anyone, do some research, like look at their profile make sure their sign up date wasn't yesterday check to see if they have done any business with other users on this website and they have 'vouched' for them saying they are legit. Look to see how many posts the user has like if they have under 20 posts or something along those lines, they are still fairly new. A lot of previously banned scammers on this website just come back on another account, the first thing they do is sign up with a really [Censored]name, and then they go and make an introduction as their first message. Most users who are really new to this website wouldn't sign up first time with an [Censored]name and make an introduction as their first message. Most of the users I see who sign up here for the first time dont know too much about OG accounts, and are not into the OG business (as they just joined this website) and shouldn't have a really good collection of OG accounts if they literally just joined this website for the first time and are learning about it now. (as this is the most popular place to sell Minecraft related items, and the most popular item to sell are OG accounts) So when you are doing deals with a user for the first time, look around and make sure they have good reputation on this website and are not new.
DOING DEALS VIA PAYPAL:
So paypal is where 90% of the transactions on this website are done. One of the most important things to do is make sure you don't send the money as 'Friends and family' because if you get scammed and you go to charge this back on PayPal they will not give you your money back because you dont know the person in real life and you lied to their system. This is the main reason people ask for money to be sent via friends and family. I am not saying everyone who asks for money sent to them via friends and family is a scammer, many well known users on here like to do deals on here like that so that you cant charge back on them. But one way to point out a scammer is if they are a new fishy user and they ask for friends and family payments on PayPal. This doesn't always protect you as the scammer could call it 'unauthorized' and get their money back saying their account was hacked. But this will help you get your money back if something ever does happen.
Another good thing to keep in mind, if you are talking to the user on here and they sound young like around the age 9, 10 or 11. Do not deal with them. Many children do not know how to handle money.
So I hope this prevents a lot of you guys from being scammed!
I've been scammed a ton of times in the past and it sucks. Maybe someday I will write more about this when I get more time.... For now I am going to post this thread!
