I've decided to sit here and waste a load of time writing a huge essay on how to make a successful Minecraft server, how you should manage it, specific people you should hire and why, how to grow your server and much much more. Hopefully, this will help you all out a little bit if you're only just starting out your servers or are looking for advice on how to improve your servers. :)

DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY SCAMS THAT COULD GO ON USING THESE CONTACTS.

TIP: Do not begin your server if you cannot fully financially support it as you're just going to waste your money, time and other peoples time.

Coming Up With A Name

For some reason, this is always the hardest part for me. When thinking of a name, you need to decide on a set theme that you can revolve it around. For example, I'm going to take the name KingMC. When I think of King(s), I'm usually thinking medieval themed and the Tudor times etc. This would allow my server to be medieval themed.

If you decided maybe you didn't want a set theme for your server so that you could expand onto many different realms such as Space, Jurassic etc, you could possibly use a name that doesn't really have a theme but still has a bit of a ring to it. Names like these include servers like GotPvP, NoxiousPvP, and OstiaPvP.

Server Theme

Server themes are usually the easiest part of creating a server. As mentioned previously, when thinking of a server name, you usually come up with a theme anyways so you could use that as your general server theme.

Say you use a name like OstiaPvP and you are trying to think of different themes for different realms etc, always start out with the themes that you have the most themed ideas for.

Some themes that you could use are listed down below:

● Pirate Theme
● Space Theme
● Medieval Theme
● Egyptian Theme
● Fantasy Theme
● Roman Theme
● Greek Theme
● Oriental Theme

Organisation, Planning & Budgeting

Personally, I believe this is the most essential part of creating a server. Planning allows you to think ahead of time, plan out your goals and how you would like everything to go. This also allows you to brainstorm and put your ideas onto paper.

A substantial server budget is essential when creating a server, you cannot create a good server with $10. Depending on the game mode, you will need to set aside a certain amount of money. With most game modes, you are required to set aside $300-$2000 at the minimum depending on the quality that you wish your server to fulfill. For every successful server, you will need to purchase and dedicate yourself towards doing the following things.

● Discord Server
● Art and Illustrations
● Animated Banner (Optional)
● Discord Bot (Optional but suggested)
● VPS Hosting (For the Discord Bot)
● A Developer Server
● Server Setup
● Developers
● Builders
● Terraformers
● Web Hosting
● Forums Theme
● Forums Setup
● YouTube Channel (Optional)
● Twitter (Optional)
● Trailer
● Advertisement
● Buycraft Setup
● Buycraft Theme
● Buycraft Ultimate (Required if you want a theme)

I recommend following this exact order.

Creating a Discord Server

When creating a Discord server, there are no real limits aside from professionalism. The Discord must look professional and you must make sure announcements and important posts are thought through carefully especially when executing an "@ everyone" otherwise players might get annoyed that they're being pinged for no reason.

Don't fancy doing it yourself and want someone else to do it for you? Here are a couple of people that do it for a cheap price or even free!

● DinPro#8338
● Rooftop#0001
● Blake#9081

Managers & Staff Coordination

When searching for a manager, you need to make sure they're trustworthy as they are going to be another huge staff representative and run most of the front face of the server. There are many types of managers which specialize in certain things, this usually includes Staff Management, Community Management, Operations Management and Marketing Management.

Here are some good managers that are able to kick-start your server. Most managers aren't cheap but that's because their services are of high quality.

● Lease#8288
● Zacey#0001
● MythicGirl#3818
● Fawks#0001
● -.-#5338

Art and Illustrations

Art and Illustrations are always there to make the server look good and present a good name for itself, although everyone likes their own style of art. Personally, I prefer the more animated type art as I believe it stands out more and appeals more to players.

If you also decide you would like an animated banner, I recommend "Krypton Designs", they offer animated banners for as little as £2. You can also contact Ghast on Discord (Ghast#8336) he sells banners for only $10!

When ordering art, you got to think very carefully about what you want your logo to represent. As stated in the name section, everything must be themed around what you associate with your name, for example, KingMC, my description would be:

● I would like to order a logo for my server, my logo will include the name of the server
"KingMC" and it will be in a Mustard-Yellow color (#fff960 [Hex Colour Code]) and
have a king in the background wearing chainmail with a diamond in his hand. He
will be stood outside a huge stone castle with archers with bows on top of the towers
either side of the gate to the castle.

Here are some contacts for art, although some of them may not be open for commissions.

● BratuDraw#6054
● Monlotron#8376
● Wonder#0513
● Dann Art (Don't have a Discord but he's around in the Design & Graphics section)

Discord Bot

Discord bots are entirely optional but they are a nice little touch to your server. It also allows you to use your creativity to create a nicer look for your Discord server.

When purchasing Discord bots off of people, some of them also offer to host it for a price per month but it is recommended that you host it yourself in case something goes wrong with their hosting, they stop their services or something else.

Here are some suggestions on what to put into your custom Discord Bot:

● Store Command
● Forums Command
● IP Command
● Help Command
● Embed Command
● Clear Command
● Coins System
● Giveaways System
● Polls System
● Suggestions System
● Bot Logs System
● In-game Stats System

Here are some contacts for Discord Bots, please note that the price varies depending on what you order.

● FoxNick#9999
● Blue#4501
● Decipherer#0001

Server Setup & Configuration

This is where your server really begins to come to life. It is recommended that you take time when doing this as if you mess this up, it's really hard to make a good first impression to many players when you first release.

When creating or purchasing a setup, you need to consider many different things such as:

● Theme
● Rank Names
● Crate Winnings (Optional)
● Desired Features
● Chat Formatting
● And pretty much every minor feature...

Here are some contacts for server setups and configurations.

● Zeiyon#5559
● jackskate#4302
● xNekio#9001

Purchase a Developer Server

Purchasing a developer server allows you to test out your fresh new server setup out and also allows your developers when they're hired to work and test their products without actually spending too much money on hosting whilst it's not delivering its purpose.

You need to make sure the server can hold many different plugins to ensure good testing and so you can be 100% sure that the bugs you manage to fix, are fixed for good.

There are many good managed Minecraft hosting companies out there which supply these sort of servers.

● PebbleHost
● Clovux Host
● Skynode
● Excaliber Node
● TigerNode

Contact and Commissioning Developers

When recruiting a developer, you should make sure they know exactly what they are doing, they have a plethora of skills and a trustable background as they are going to be managing most of the background of your server.

There are many developers around in the community which are most likely more than willing to take commissions for you, although, some May already be contracted with another server or too busy to take upon your job.

● OOP-778#2627
● Currywurst#1904
● Captain#5657

Conclusion

To conclude, I really hope this helps or I've just wasted a day of my life writing this

I've most likely missed so much stuff so just let me know what you want me to add.

If you want to be added to any of the contacts lists, let me know by dropping a comment using this format and I'll add you.

Role:
Discord Tag:

To be added when I can be bothered:

➥ Purchase Web Hosting
➥ Setup Your Forums
➥ Purchase Your Forum's Theme
➥ Purchase Your Trailer

➥ Purchase Your Trailer
Purchasing a trailer is the most important thing before releasing any kind of advertisement plan. A trailer should include a re-upload reward to spread this thru various smaller channels with new communities. This brings instant playerbase upon release for those who wish to collect the goods for their re-upload. This garranties profit on release

Trailers can be bought by many good artist, but if your budget is ranging 50-100$ we suggest to purchase from Sentiinel. If the budget is 200$+, custom minecraft animations can be attempted.[DOUBLEPOST=1535414067][/DOUBLEPOST]➥ Purchase Web Hosting
A web host is essential to hosting your server’s website. A lot of minecraft hosting providers offer free web host, but in case they do not, we suggest these 1$ or less/month web host:
  • Clovux.net (Use code "Ghast" for 25% off every month)
  • Pebblehost

It's a combination of both money and experience. Most (if not all) (decent/successful) servers have owners that have tried and tried to release servers on multiple occassions before. Most of them probably failed, some might have not.

Money:

I recommend you at least have 400-500$ ready for a server if you are going to invest time into it. It's really good if you already are able to do something yourself. Things such as art or custom plugins can get expensive, and if you are able to do them yourself then you are in a good spot. However, I do recommend outsourcing most of your resources from other people. If they can do something really well for about money, why not talk to them? It saves you time so you can focus on other server related things.

Experience:

Experienced server owners know the hassle of setting up a server from the start. You need to do so much if you don't have help, and so, I recommend you don't release your server for at least 2 months. What I used to do is release my server about 50% way through development. Now this isn't THAT bad, but it does mean that there are bugs. And if you don't have a secondary server to test your plugins on, you constantly have to restart your server. (Reloading it is bad! It breaks plugins.) As a player, why would you want to play on a server that restarts every five minutes in order to test if a chat prefix is working?

Advertising:

This is the make or break of any server. You need to put out the word of your server into the world or no one will visit it.
From my own experience, the first 2-5 days of posting your server on a voting site, is the best traffic you will most likely ever get. Why? Most sites display new servers in a seperate page, or users tend to go to the lowest ranking servers to visit the still unkown servers. Your server will be the literal lowest rank once it gets published on the site. Let's say you have 10k servers. If I go to the lowest servers page, I can see about 30 servers there. Yours might be included and It'll draw me in. If you are ranked 8k, how am I ever going to find your server?

The key is to start advertising when the server is ready, as you will get the most players then. Get those votes going, make it very attractive, at least for the beginning. More votes = higher ranking. Who knows, you might reach the top 1k if you manage to pull advertising off well.

You will need art and a banner to come over as professional. I recommend Aelin (Wonder#0513) for drawn art. They do an amazing job a nice price. I also recommend Ghast for animated banners. (Ghast#8336)
A good looking post is very pleasing to the eye. Search for thread designers, they make these images that you can post on forum threads. On the image you have custom text with your IP and more. It looks really good and professional if done right.

Legal:

This is a very important part of your server. If you do not know what EULA is, allow me to explain.
EULA stands for: End User License Agreement.

It's that thing you have to set to 'true' when you create your server for the first time. It's basically a big list of rules you have to follow. One of those is how you can implement donations.

For instance: You can't have donator ranks where donators can fly and normal players cant. The normal players have to be able to get that rank somehow as well. (I recommend a monthly giveaway for the donator rank in question.) You also can't charge money for in game currency. (Gold coins, or whatever you have as a currency in your server.)

You will need to have a ToS (Terms of Service) on your buycraft store(or any other donation website). It basically is a list of things you (The server) is entitled to and what the donator is entitled to. This is all about paypal chargebacks, refunds, etc... I recommend talking to KyleJD (Kyle#8246) for this, as it can get quite complex.
