My friend asked me "How are you meant to get a player base when you first open a server?". I told him I didn't really know so I am asking for some pointers at the best was to get a player base from 0.

A lot of advertisement and a trailer upload about the server and get high amount of youtubers in that community of your server to upload it and it costs a few $$

Be unique and stand out, Try and advertise your server on websites, and get youtubers to make videos on your server. It's a lot more work than you think, trust me, but once you have a player base, it's easier to keep it going.
