i'm not sure a good a startup story saying "just for fun" would get customers...but here:

On average a business nowadays take 2-5 years to actually make money. So if you do decide to start a business, especially in the hosting industry realize that it will take time and effort to actually start to earn a living for yourself. A ton of money doesn't come over a few weeks or months, it can take years of hard work every single day. So if you decide to go for it, know this information beforehand.

my dad. Good thing I already know Linux, saves me a ton in the long run. I'll start out only collocating one of my servers then add on as I grow. This is going to take a lot of time, but I'm up for the challenge. My hosting company shall be called...NVH! Nerd Virtual Hosting!

You never know he gets a wonderful website, amazing prices with amazing hardware, goes skyrocket and everyone buys from him.
I'm not saying the chance is "big" with the intentions he has, but I mean guys, give him a break. He's new.
