I have tested this method myself in an iPhone 5c, I'm not fully sure how it works on Android. This is not sponsored, I am not getting anything out of posting this.

So now that I told you all the disclaimers, here is how you get the service. (read carefully):
1. Create a new PayPal account, verify email, and send yourself $1 F&F. (IMPORTANT!!! Don't use your main PayPal!)
2. Then you want to go to this link: https://goo.gl/CGpZTt
3. Type in your zip code and email address, and click on "GET A SIM". DO NOT LIE ABOUT YOUR INFORMATION, BECAUSE THEY ARE SHIPPING THE CARD TO YOU!
3. Follow the steps.
4. Once you reach the payment screen, click "Pay with PayPal" on the top right of the screen.
5. Type in your billing zip code, and click "Complete Order"
6. You will be redirected to the PayPal checkout page.
7. Type in your PayPal details FOR YOUR PAYPAL FROM STEP #1, and then pay.
8. Your sim card has been paid for, and is on it's way.
*delivery takes 1-2 weeks, be patient* it's all worth it at the end.
9. Go to freedompop.com, and login to your account. Hover over the "My Account" tab, and click "Plans". In "My Plans" under the blue name, press "details and plan management", and click "downgrade, click here" on the bottom left in small text, and follow steps carefully, making sure you are downgrading and not getting stopped.
10. Now when you recieve your sim card in the mail, pop it into your unlocked phone, and the Google Play or App store, search for "freedompop", and install their app.
11. Now enter the app, login to your freedompop account, and then install the profile. YOU MUST INSTALL THE PROFILE FOR THE DATA TO WORK!
That's it! You now have free fully working cellular service. The server is on the AT&T network. Data speeds are pretty fast for free service.
