Hello,

I recently opened a survival server and I don't really know where to go from there, I'm trying to find people who'll be part of the community but I don't think there's a lot of advertising options for this kind of server. What do you think are good ways to grow a server that's focused on survival?

Thanks!

In my opinion, I would try to find a youtuber that plays survival lets plays a lot. That way it can be like a "Come Play With Me" series for their channel.

Okay THIS is where I have the most experience as far as where Minecraft servers are concerned. Let me offer you some advice from my 3 years of running a survival server.

To be honest, don't make a survival server if you hope to get big because trust me it won't happen. The most number of simultaneous players my server ever got in 3 years was 27 and that was only for 1 or 2 days. Only made $250 in donations during that time as well.

If that doesn't change your mind, here are my best tips for making a successful survival server:

  • Don't do map resets for the sake of a map reset. If your player base is low, just create a world border in the world and expand it when needed. World borders create a more tight knit community. Communication is key.
  • Do come on your server often and chat with your players. Listen to them! Help them out! If you have time, go into survival and play a bit, but don't cheat in items from creative for your personal gain.
  • If you do manage to get an active player base of 30 or so players like I once did, don't instantly go into "popular" mode and splurge on a dedi and turn the server into a network. THIS will literally kill the server because players will go elsewhere.
Thanks I'll scratch off my plan of expanding game-modes , how did you go about advertising your server? I'm having a bit of trouble getting it out there :(
