Hey, best mineman forum of all time.
I’ve seen countless threads of users struggling with advertising their minecraft server. And here I am making a “guide” of how to properly advertise.
There are many ways of advertising, from youtubers to facebook ads. However this post is about youtube advertising as I don’t have much experience outside the youtube advertising world. However I find this post by Gordo very informative.
So first things first, a budget is obviously needed to advertise. A budget can be anything from $10 to $10.000+, obviously don’t expect too much with a budget of $10. Let’s sum up some of the options you have to advertise through youtubers.
One-off videos, series, livestreams, partners, media owners,
One-off videos:
This is probably one of the cheapest and less effective ways of advertising. I would suggest this way of advertising to anyone that has a budget under $300. Fun fact: I started advertising with $50 and got a playerbase of 50 daily online with peaks of 80+ players.
Series:
This is a less budget friendly way of advertising, this is good for people that are not looking to partner up with someone. This can be very effective, I personally never used this way of advertising but I know people that did and they had a successful server. (You would be looking at anywhere from $300 to $1.000, depending on the amount of views that the youtuber has.)
Livestreams:
Livestreams are very good to kick in some players. However most of the time when the streamer ends his stream the players will leave. But this is a great way to advertise an event that you are doing on your server, for example a rank giveaway or even a sale. (Streams are often very expensive for what they make. You would be looking at anywhere from $80 to $300 for a livestream, depending on the view count.)
Partners:
Possibly one of the most effective ways of advertising, this is mostly used if you want to keep a youtuber to your server. You will not have the struggle of losing your players. But this method is a bid pricey for most people. (You would be looking at at least $400 per month.)
Media-Owners:
The most effective way of advertising in my opinion. A media owner often have different payment ways. What I do if I work with a media owner I offer them 10% of server profit, and sometimes on top of that an extra $170 - $200 if the profit is under $500 (This is simply to make the media owner stay with you, if your profit is always under $500 they won’t be making too much and will leave after a time.)
Partnership.
(These prices are based of off past experiences.)
10.000 subscribers:
$525 - $600 (4 videos each week.)
15.000 subscribers:
$655 - $800 (4 videos each week.)
20.000 subscribers:
$775 - $1.1k (4 videos each week.)
Other way of dealing:
$175 each month, and 25$ each video a week. This is a way of dealing with the youtuber, the amount you pay each month will vary on the amount of videos he uploaded.
I would suggest if you contact a youtuber that has more than 100.000 subscribers to work with some sort of contract.
Contacting a youtuber how?
Simple, most youtubers have a business email, however they are mostly ignored and never looked at. Twitter seems the best way of contacting a youtuber if they have messages enabled. But how do I contact a youtuber? Try to act mature and professional, this is something so simple but yet so hard for this community.
A professional email / twitter message.
*Servername* partnership <- I put this on top of a twitter messages as most youtubers will often look quicker to your message.
Hey *youtuber name*.
We are looking for media partners to advertise our network, *some information about your network, remember keep it short and to the point.*
Our offer is $xx per month for xx videos a week. You would have the opportunity to do giveaways and grow your channel of other partners. I’ve got a document ready for you, if you’d like to hear more.
King regards,
*Servername*
This is short and to the point, don’t make a whole story of how you came to the earth and how you started your network, no one is wanting to read for an hour.
And most important don’t be afraid to offer him something, you can always work something out. A no you’ve got, a yes you can get.
A little list of youtubers with prices (Keep in mind that these prices might be outdated, but you atleast you have something to look at.)
2.000+ subscribers.
bobo50cent - $20 - $30 for a video. Avg view count: 1k - 3k
Topu - $50 for a video. Avg view count: 2k - 4k
