Dedi. No host is going to be more reliable than yourself. You won't have to rely on a 12+hour support ticket answer to change one thing about your server, install a custom jar, etc.

Depends on who "yourself" is. If you have no knowledge of Linux (like most people) then there is no point having a dedi. Unless its managed, and even then you are relying on someone else, so its just the same. You still have to wait. Even if you do know a bit of Linux, its likely more reliable to leave it in the hands of a professional from a hosting company.

"yourself" only means one thing, but um.. okay. You know you don't have to use linux right? Sure, a non-gui version of linux is faster, but you can use gui-linux or even windows. Also, you don't have to rely on the professionals at ovh or any other dedicated server hosting company to people able to manage your server. If you have full access, you don't need to open a support ticket to get things installed/changed on your mc server. If the dedi stops working, that's a diff story
