Hey everyone, I'm Projecki. I'm now one of the few people to make it past 50+ rep on this website. With this privilege, I would like to say something.
The reputation system is broken. It does not convey the reputation of the user in the community effectively.
Let's start from the beginning. I started playing Minecraft in the Spring of 2016 when some of my friends urged me to start playing on Arkham Network with them. I decided to give it a try and I pretty much fell in love with the community that plays there. I was even staff on there, for around 4 days, haha. I eventually made friends with someone by the name of Dom. He invited me to become staff on his new prison server/network called "Enchanted Network". I quickly rose up to Admin but resigned because I wasn't working well with him. He still noticed my effort and hard work, and he was able to recommend me to hohos, a man who was opening up a new network soon called "Squared.Me". I was instantly given Admin but the problems between myself and Dom arose again, and I was forced to resign. Sometime around there, a friend recommended me to MCM. I forget who it was, or even how exactly I got to MCM, but I knew I wanted to try out being a Manager. Here's my introduction thread: http://www.mc-market.org/threads/171440/ As you can see, I joined this website only half a year ago. Once again hohos brought me on to manage his network ParallaxMC. I cannot thank him enough for giving me the experience I needed to thrust me into the world of management.
I quickly found out that reputation is something that is valued incredibly high when doing deals on this website. I quickly found out that it really isn't that hard to get, either. With my kind and generally understanding personality, I was able to quickly acquire reputation points for basically nothing. I'm going to admit it right now, I farmed a lot of my rep.
In my obsession with boosting up a number and getting free vouch copies, I did everything I could to squeeze every last bit of vouch, reaction, and reputation out of the people I met. Always asking them to leave a vouch and rep, and always treating them with other-worldly respect. The moment I found this out, I put it into play immediately. At the time I was just starting up my writing service. I was doing writing for like 2-4 bucks. Quick writing that would get me an easy vouch and rep, as long as I was kind. I also started doing free discord setups in exchange for a vouch, and quite honestly a rep, although a rep was never required. You can see when this started because of my boost in reputation in such a short time.
Within a week, I had already received 15 positive rep. Something else you may notice is that the overwhelming majority of these people are low rep, newbies to this website.
A lot (but not all) of the high rep users on this site simply ask or beg for their reputation.
Here's what I personally think we need
- Increase the amount of time a user has to be on this website before being able to give reputation
- Educate new members on how reputation works, rather than letting higher rep members manipulate them into thinking that you rep for basically anything.
- Pretty much everything Matt D and the rest of the community have said in this suggestion: http://www.mc-market.org/threads/212513/
That's about all I have. Can't be asked to go over my post and make it more high quality.
From now on, I promise that I will use the reputation system fairly. I know that this may put me at a disadvantage against users who manipulate others to rep them, but I feel it is only right.
Thanks for reading,
Projecki
