Hey everyone, I'm Projecki. I'm now one of the few people to make it past 50+ rep on this website. With this privilege, I would like to say something.

The reputation system is broken. It does not convey the reputation of the user in the community effectively.

Let's start from the beginning. I started playing Minecraft in the Spring of 2016 when some of my friends urged me to start playing on Arkham Network with them. I decided to give it a try and I pretty much fell in love with the community that plays there. I was even staff on there, for around 4 days, haha. I eventually made friends with someone by the name of Dom. He invited me to become staff on his new prison server/network called "Enchanted Network". I quickly rose up to Admin but resigned because I wasn't working well with him. He still noticed my effort and hard work, and he was able to recommend me to hohos, a man who was opening up a new network soon called "Squared.Me". I was instantly given Admin but the problems between myself and Dom arose again, and I was forced to resign. Sometime around there, a friend recommended me to MCM. I forget who it was, or even how exactly I got to MCM, but I knew I wanted to try out being a Manager. Here's my introduction thread: http://www.mc-market.org/threads/171440/ As you can see, I joined this website only half a year ago. Once again hohos brought me on to manage his network ParallaxMC. I cannot thank him enough for giving me the experience I needed to thrust me into the world of management.

I quickly found out that reputation is something that is valued incredibly high when doing deals on this website. I quickly found out that it really isn't that hard to get, either. With my kind and generally understanding personality, I was able to quickly acquire reputation points for basically nothing. I'm going to admit it right now, I farmed a lot of my rep.

In my obsession with boosting up a number and getting free vouch copies, I did everything I could to squeeze every last bit of vouch, reaction, and reputation out of the people I met. Always asking them to leave a vouch and rep, and always treating them with other-worldly respect. The moment I found this out, I put it into play immediately. At the time I was just starting up my writing service. I was doing writing for like 2-4 bucks. Quick writing that would get me an easy vouch and rep, as long as I was kind. I also started doing free discord setups in exchange for a vouch, and quite honestly a rep, although a rep was never required. You can see when this started because of my boost in reputation in such a short time.

Within a week, I had already received 15 positive rep. Something else you may notice is that the overwhelming majority of these people are low rep, newbies to this website.

A lot (but not all) of the high rep users on this site simply ask or beg for their reputation.

Here's what I personally think we need
- Increase the amount of time a user has to be on this website before being able to give reputation
- Educate new members on how reputation works, rather than letting higher rep members manipulate them into thinking that you rep for basically anything.
- Pretty much everything Matt D and the rest of the community have said in this suggestion: http://www.mc-market.org/threads/212513/

That's about all I have. Can't be asked to go over my post and make it more high quality.

From now on, I promise that I will use the reputation system fairly. I know that this may put me at a disadvantage against users who manipulate others to rep them, but I feel it is only right.

Thanks for reading,
Projecki

High performance, consistent uptime and fast support. Minecraft hosting that just works.

Yay let's have a 3rd different reputation system because that's gonna work out!

Sarcasm

I agree with you it's broken but it's too late to fix it, and a bit ironic that you say "don't let high rep users manipulate newbies" I mean.. You literally did the same I'm guessing? You have the right to report your own rep and have them removed, which is what I did for reps that were for less than 10$ deals.

Yes, that's my point. The fact that I hit 50 rep while being on this website for 6 months isn't really legit, and I'm admitting that.

Reputation wasn't even thing for most of the OGs who have been around for quite some time (including myself). All these new members really think the reputation means something, but in all honesty the reason most of us OGs don't have much of it is because we aren't as active as we used to be. It's harder to get deals now when people are like "You don't have much reputation"... Back in the OG days, the reputation was based on your time on MCM, reactions (we called them ratings), and message count. If you were gonna scam it was unlikely to happen if you had a lot of messages, ratings, and an old enough account. It still is unlikely, it does happen, but so does users with your "high reputation" scamming people.

I must admit that I've done a few dodgy things myself. I removed most of them though after realizing my rep is already good enough and I don't need fake reps to keep it up.

Looks like some of the staff just pruned the reputation I had showed in the thread.

All I can ask is that equal treatment is shown to other high reputation users that have quite obviously rep farmed.

Despite me completely trusting Chearful, he is a prime example of this. So is Vice.

I always try to explain to people the reason I have little rep and vouches is because I don't beg people to leave one every time I do deal. I think that's obnoxious.

I used to ask for reputation back when I first joined MC-Market. After I realized how decieving this can be, I stopped doing this.

- Educate new members on how reputation works, rather than letting higher rep members manipulate them into thinking that you rep for basically anything

This is something I strongly agree with, especially after realizing my mistake of asking for rep. I feel like other individuals should be informed of this.

About the reputation system being broken, I feel like the only change it needs is moderation to it. Of course we all need to respectfully acknowledge that the staff on the site do their job very well to the point it can be time consuming. So moderating the reputation system might be hard. But if this were ever possible, I'd say it should be mandatory to add proof when making a positive, negative or neutral reputation. Staff could check it to make sure it's valid.

But as I said, it would be near impossible to do this, not all the staff members have time for that since there's a lot of members on the site who give reputation daily.

I can somewhat agree to this. But, sometimes to get reputation in this community people do vouch copies for different services, 50-75% of the time people use the reputation system.

Exactly!

That's what I've been saying all the time, including on my suggestion which got massive support. Currently the rep system is what it was before it got removed for being misused badly. People think "nice guy", "made me something for FREE/vouch copy" (using rep as a currency) etc. are valid reasons to +rep but they're not. The only time use of the rep system may be suggested is after a deal is completed, not a free item for rep, not for help, but a deal. People seem to think they can do these little things and then ASK for rep. It's unfair to people who actually run a service, work to earn rep and then these clowns rep each other for "nice guy" a million times which is the code word for rep4rep at this point. Are these users' reputation equal to each other? No. And it shouldn't be treated that way. Same goes for people -repping over the tiniest things causing people to be afraid to use the rep system in case of revenge rep. That's why screenshots are great because it's easy to see exactly what it was for and will make people think twice before leaving garbage rep because they'll know we will look at it. Forged screenshot? No problem, the person who got the rep reports it and if they're right, whoever forged it loses their rep perms indefinitely.

Though having us check each one wouldn't work out. It'd be best to just look at what is reported.
