Do you ever come across that staff one member who calls himself a developer but can't code? Not necessarily like the title, but still minecraft servers have become something annoying. About every server you join these days, it either has a smart developer who apparently can "code the essentials config" or the owner who does his own work and says the same. Just a good topic I thought I should bring up.​

You can't code a configuration file its there to be edited and DEVELOPED by the DEVELOPERS or higher ranked staff not all Devs know how to code there just good and configuration and that's why you see this problem acure on more than 1 mc server

Absolutely. You have no idea how cringeworthy it is to hear 13 year olds lecturing you about how they're professional, experienced developers, while literally all of their "work" revolves around Skript, MagicSpells, Essentials and/or Featherboard configuration.

I do all my server configurations and those types of things myself, I simply call myself Owner. I can see where you are coming from I get staff applications daily of this.

I'm mixed on this, and I apologize for the mini-necro post. Developers on my network deal with both configurations and plugin creation. We describe our developers as the backbone of our server, because they manage the features that our players love. Wether this be coding an egg wars plugin, or changing the Essentials MOTD, these are all things players get exposed to, use, and view on a daily basis, and that's why we put our devs in charge of everything like that.

yes, and those are actual devs, who have an actual basic understanding of programming.

The people that are the butt of this thread are those that can only do configs, and call themselves developers. Heck, all I know are HTML/CSS and Python, yet with a bit of practice I could already be more of a developer than them, just not so much for Bukkit or Spigot plugins.
