If you ask for donations to keep the server up which is outside of the server you aren't going to make any money and its going to shut down. If people like your server and stay they will most likely buy a rank which keeps the server up and raises the playercount. Unless new things are being added or more people are gradually joining all this will do is postpone the shutting down of the server. ( (From experience. )
