After making a bad decision on storing player data, I am forced to completely restart my database. The method I first used for storing player data was to create a new [playerName].yml file for each player in a folder called PlayerDatabase with a plugin I made. A week later, I realised that those files could only be accessed from the hub server.

Now I want to create a database that can be accessed throughout all of my network's servers. A database called MongoDB has been suggested to me. The problem is, Mongo is decently hard to install on a VPS, and is tricky to learn how to use in Bukkit plugins. I need someone who is experienced or has used/installed MongoDB before to install and setup MongoDB for my network, as well as teaching me how to create/edit files in my own plugins. I'm sure this will be quite easy for someone who has done this task before. Still, I will offer $15.00 USD to whoever can do this for me.

If you are interested or have any advice for me about Mongo, please reply to this topic. I will PM you my Skype if I think you can help me out.

Thanks for reading! - Soldier

Sockets ;)
Sure, it would be a pretty poor idea, but it would work.

I actually haven't ordered a VPS yet. I'd order whatever OS works with MongoDB. Do you guy know how much RAM I would need? Would any of these plans work, or should I go with DigitalOcean?
The RAM needed depends on what you are planning to do with the server. Personally I prefer Debian as an OS but if this is your first Linux server Ubuntu might be better.

Do you think
  • 512MBMemory
  • 1 CoreProcessor
  • 20GBSSD Disk
is good enough for a small network? Or could I get something lower. My network probably will never have more than 100 players online at once.

For that playercount you would want a lot more memory. A 16 or 32GB dedicated server would be best for a network of that size.

If you are starting small then a server smaller than that wouldn't break the bank budget-wise but it would be a lot more powerful than a vps.
