I've been looking for a "fast" host recently, and the lack of any unified rankings or tests are pretty disappointing. As is the hundreds of various hosts claiming they are the "fastest."
Therefore, I'm compiling and ranking a list of the fastest/most scalable web hosts (shared and managed only) and plan on displaying them publicly.
A full methodology will be released later, but performance will be based on the following factors:
WordPress Site Performance
- WPPerformanceTester Plugin Results
- Logged-In User Performance (50-350 Simultaneous Users, r/s and response times will be tracked)
- Non-Logged In (cached) Load Performance (500-2000 requests per second)
- Site speed from 11 locations
- Site response time and uptime over 7 days from 15 locations
Static HTML Site Performance
- Requests Per Second and Response times (apachebench)
- Site speed from 11 locations.
Each host will be tested with the same site on their default setup. When available, caching and any provided CDN will be enabled. All hosts will be tested from the same servers & location. Specific server locations and software used will be disclosed after tests to prevent prioritization. Tests will be USA-based, and plan pricing will be factored into results.
Price brackets are below:
FREE Hosting
0-$1
$1-$5
$5-10
$10-$20
$20-$30
$30 per month is the maximum. Price to Performance will be calculated.
We're looking for hosts interested in participating in this study. Participation is free. We do ask that you provide us the plans you are interested in submitting for 2 months in order to adequately test them. Any special modification or optimization that is not normally provided is considered cheating and will result in public disqualification.
A maximum of 50 hosts will be tested. To apply, first comment the host you represent, and plan(s) (3 maximum) you want to be tested, and I'll pm and provide you more information. Questions can also be posted below or pmed.
WE WILL NOT BE TAKING "SPONSORSHIPS" OR PAYMENT IN RETURN FOR BETTER RESULTS. DON'T BOTHER ASKING.
WE WILL RANDOMLY PURCHASE PLANS FROM SOME HOSTS TO VERIFY THE PERFORMANCE BETWEEN PROVIDED AND PUBLIC PLANS ARE THE SAME.
