Sooooo, where to start on this one. The warning/ban system is a bit arbitrary. It seems to be run from an unspoken book of do's and don'ts without a directly implied consequence chart.

My proposal is to explicitly state the potential consequence for breaking a rule. I've heard that it takes 110 warnings to be permanently banned. Seems extreme, however, we also see that someone can murmur just the name of a competitive site and instantly be banned. It all seems cloudy, and shady to be honest.

Anything that can result in an instant ban should be stated in black and white (figuratively, because my example is in color :p). We're not mind readers here. Perhaps color code the rules, and then have a key at the bottom that says what it's potential consequence.

Example:

1. GLOBAL RULES
The following rules apply globally across all areas on the site. No matter what you are doing on the site, you should abide by these rules.
1.1 Do not abuse the ratings system. Abusing the ratings system includes giving an excessive amount of ratings, overusing a specific rating, or using other accounts (such as a business account) to give yourself ratings.
1.2 Do not advertise websites that directly compete with MC-Market.
1.3 Do not create multiple accounts. Each member may have one personal account and one business account.
1.4 Do not defame or otherwise trash another member, person, or thread.
1.5 Do not disrespect, harass, hate on, or troll another member or person.

1.6 Do not impersonate another member, person, or company or otherwise misrepresent yourself.
1.7 Do not post content that contains “spoilers” of movies or TV shows.

█ Instant Ban
█ 60 warning points

█ 10 warning points
█ 3 warning points
█ 1 warning point

The aforementioned example is only for illustration purposes. Actual values would have to be determined by the staff.

I like this. Looks very colorful. I would be happy to do something like this.

Would also make the rules a little less boring to look at. ;)

I'd also suggest deleting like half of the rules. The half that are over authoritative.

Yes, a permanent ban takes 110 points however it would take a few years to actually get to that point as you'd be temporary banned for quite some time every 10 warnings points.

I highly doubt anyone will hit 110 warning points like ever.

As for the suggestion, I don't see anything wrong with this. We're always aiming for transparency.

Maybe make a separate thread about that? ;)

I would if I thought it would be taken serious.[DOUBLEPOST=1454990814,1454990626][/DOUBLEPOST]

I think you're missing the point. The suggestion is to publicly state the consequence for breaking each rule, and stop moderating the forums arbitrarily. Apparently people will get 110 points, because mentioning a competitor site = perma ban, and perma ban = 110 points. Not all rules are equal, so it would be nice to be transparent about consequences. Let people know that if they do X it will result in X.

I'll take it seriously. I may not agree with it, but I will take your thoughts seriously and I'd be happy to participate in a discussion about it.

I don't [agree with this idea].

People will just push it so they can try break rules that have less "severity". Rules are rules, severity isn't a thing. Rules also aren't the rainbow. The legislation of any country is boring, the U.K. legislation is written in almost Latin... It's not meant to be fun. It's meant to convey a point or purpose.

I mean, I like the idea. It's constructive and well presented. I just don't think the outcome will be as constructive.

Decisions should be made on a case by case basis. For example, judges choose a fine based on evidence, not "issue a warning coming with a predefined fine"

This was my point:

Sure, we have a preset amount of warning points for each warning but the person giving this warning can modify it how he likes.

I have 2 questions about this:

1.) Is there a way to see how many "points" you have. Note I haven't gotten any at least to my understanding but is there a way to tell my own "point" score?

2.) Do these points go down over time like for example if I were to
1.7 Do not post content that contains “spoilers” of movies or TV shows.
And I got 2 points are these permanent or not? Like is there a cool-down process?

1) You should be able to view your warnings on your profile.

2) No. The warning points are permanent. If you break the rules, you break the rules. If you continue to break the rules after being given warnings, I think you deserve to be disciplined accordingly. If you stop breaking the rules, you'll be fine and it won't matter.

I love this idea, but I feel like it's a bit over-the-top for a fully colored rules, I've always felt lots of changing colors are kind of confusing and a turn off. Maybe instead, only highlight a small part like:

1.1) This is the first rule

Or list the points like

1.1) [10 p] This is the first rule

It's a bit more subtle and easier on the eyes.

Good suggestion, though!
