Hello, my name is Adrian Griffin (also known as ThePhantomDev), and I am currently a student in CISCO Networking and WCP working towards multiple certifications in networking, C# computer programming, and web design. The majority of my studies is, as you know, internet based. I can design and code websites, and I can create networks, I can do all of these things. Today in my class lecture, I wondered about something that I can create that can revolutionize the internet as we know it.

We all know some of the basic layers of the web, the Internet, the Extranet, and the Intranet. Right now, you are all on the Extranet, not the internet. The Extranet is a private network separate from the internet that only you and a few others can access. For example, your account settings is an Extranet page. Once you go and browse the main site, you then enter the internet.

So what if we create a way for many different users to create there own network that is separate from the internet, and only allow a few people in? Just like reddit, but instead of subreddits, its SubInternets. There can be a sub internet that works like tor, or a sub internet that works like the regular internet. Imagine an internet with no websites, no browser besides your own, no anything (until you fill your internet up).

Why would somebody use this? Maybe somebody wants to create an internet that appeals to a certain crowd, maybe somebody wants to create an internet that works like the Dark Web, maybe somebody wants to use this tool for some type of development, maybe somebody is designing a website, and does not want anything to view it just yet. Your internet, your game, your laws, its your own personal internet.

Some of you may want to say that I am stupid for coming up with this, and then go through why it wont work, or why im stupid for doing this, but allow me to say right here: I dont care about what you think.

Im looking for a few people to help me develop this tool. Thanks.

Why do I feel like this is something similar to ZeroNet or FreeNet or I2P

I’m genuinely not trying to be a smartass here, but these already exist. They’re called websites. Isn’t that what you’re describing? You’re own territory where you control, configure, and arrange everything?

I see no point for this, getting a crowd that will accept this will be hard in of itself. Normal users on this forum alone only cater to the block game that is hinted within the site's name. Your SubInternet is already happening essentially in an office setting, where the staff can access certain things that the outside world can not. The only real purpose I would see for this would be to censor and hide free speech to those who only experienced your "SubInternet." Also, what you state of "Your internet, your game, your laws, its your own personal internet." This would indicate that they would be producing their own data as if they were relying on their ISP they would be bound by normal laws of their country.

And even if you do sort out the ISP scenario where they OK it (which I highly doubt it) it is going to be hard to market it as there isn't a real purpose for this, Developers themselves use private networks to simulate and test out their applications, so your SubInternet does exist, you just don't know that its there because the practical uses of it are very slim.

You can brush this post all you want off and pursue this, but keep in mind the risks that would come about it if you were truly passionate about a SubInternet development, it would mean lots of money, time, and energy put into this. If you're looking for someone who can help you with this, this is not the place, you would be better off asking your peers and professor.

How would you get websites that already work on the extranet to work on your subnet? For instance zeronet has a compatibility layer for programmers how will it work for you?

Are you sure?

Not all websites can be found using a search engine, and not all websites can be accessed with any browser. Websites with the “.onion” extension only can be accessed with Tor.

There are other peer-to-peer browsers where websites are de-centralized and hosted across the computers of all the people with the browsers installed that visit said sites. The rules here are different from the regular internet.
Imagine an internet with no websites, no browser besides your own, no anything (until you fill your internet up).
Your internet, your game, your laws, its your own personal internet.
It remains YOUR choice what you want your website to be like, how accessible you want to make it, and what purpose it’s for. Don’t like any of the current options? Make your own browser that works YOUR way. Have it run websites that work YOUR way.

Personal internet’s already exist. They’re called custom browsers and custom websites.

Thank you for the advice!
