In my recent days on this website, I have noticed the influx of servers, service teams, and other miscellaneous people searching for investors. Recently in the shoutbox, I was seeing an argument stem between an investor and his peers, degrading him for his lack of openness for investments. While this is a unique thing to see, it gets frustrating to see it being done so unprofessionally. The following information should help you understand a good investment vs a bad investment, the process of investment, and ideas for seeking investments.
Good vs Bad Investments
Thousands of servers and service teams come across this market in hopes of becoming 'big'. However, very few of these entities go on to become the next Hypixel. A few years ago, UberMC was looking to sell their server for a minute amount, passed upon by everyone. If only you had bought it back then, your profits would be incredible!
The most important thing to look at when investing is the name of the product. In order to be successful, every company/server needs to have a catchy name that correctly reflects its product, character, and employees. Normally names should be one word, and should not be have generic filler text.
Good Example: Google
Bad Example: ReallyKoolDevelopment
The next thing you should look at is the idea. What makes this server/company unique? Uniqueness includes making a current trend even better and stable. Is it a new game mode backed up by an incredible, planned out idea? Is it a service team that utilizes the internet to provide a unique alternative to Discord? The idea must be completely planned out. Remember: your job as an investor is to provide money, not to manage their company.
*A unique idea must strive to solve a problem.*
The final thing to look at is the CEO/Owner's background. Does the user have extensive experience within their field of commitment? A good CEO/Owner acts professionally and communicated in a manner which reflects it. Money-minded professionals always end up losing gas. Varyingly, passion-burned individuals never lose the ability to work for their idea. I recommend not looking into investing with users under the age of 15 unless their parents are involved within the investment.
The Process of Investment
Got an investor? Now what?
The first step is to create an Investment Contract, a document ensuring that the investor's money is returned solely by the company and its products. The contract also assigns how the investment will be dealt with if your company is shut down or forced into bankruptcy.
Normally a proper service team has a board of directors, a group of executives who vote on decisions for the company. As an investor, you should seek for a place on the board to ensure you hold a decision within the company.
Investments should most-likely be paid in short installments for product development, marketing, and product sustenance. These installments allow the company not to be overloaded with responsibility, and for the investor to keep track of his money easier.
Ideas for Seeking Investments
So you have an idea. How can you contact people and make things work out?
Create a business plan. The number one most important thing when seeking an investment is to create a business plan. They help the investor see your goals, marketing strategies, and where the money will go. Without a business plan, venture capitalists do not know where to start.
Value your company in an ideal situation. Under-valuation is a huge factor that plays a role in a company's success. Value your company and see how much your company is worth following product release. Most investors seek ~10% stake in your server/company.
