Is a TopG slot worth it?

Hello,

I know there's been threads on this but times change and the info might be outdated. I'll be opening a server soon and I'm wondering if it would be worth it to get a TopG slot. Would you recommend it, or something else? If I do get a TopG slot I'll probably rent out some days. What would be a decent price for a weekday/weekend?

TopG supports a lot more games than just Minecraft, so while the slots might be cheaper, not everyone viewing the slot will be a Minecraft player.

It is definetly not as effective as the largest Minecraft based server lists. It can increase a playerbase, especially during the summer.

Honestly you have to look at a couple of things, it highly depends on your servers quality and the banner it has.

Is your banner unique? (A custom flashy banner can make you stand out from the rest.)

Is your server unique? (Right off the bat if your server is just ordinary factions then I wouldn't recommend, along with the other common gamemodes.)

How many servers currently are rotating through the five slots. (If there are more then you won't get as much exposure.)

What time of year is it? (Summer and the Holidays the websites get more traffic.)

Topg is an interesting page, but once we're talking about top slots, I wouldn't recommend it.

Maybe a youtuber? Factions servers tend to not do as well with slots by the means of keeping new players, but youtubers also don't always enjoy recording factions either..

As Gordo said, Youtubers, but its hard to find a Youtuber that is interested into Factions instead of Minigames these days.

You don't really need paid advertisement to get that kind of playerbase, just focus on how to attract people with unique themes/features/graphics. If you have a theme players are interested in, people will come and find the server on their own.

How long would it take though? I'm hoping to speed up the process through this since I wouldn't have much time to advertise (re-list on server lists) once school hits If I do use topG then would that get me more players than what I listed?

You may get more players to begin with, but it won't really make a huge enough difference for you to keep up that playerbase in the long run. I've seen only large networks (consisting of multiple gamemodes) really benefit from server slots, otherwise it doesn't really help much. It's better off for you to invest that 300$ into the server to attract more players. Depending on the theme you may have, it may take days, weeks, or even months to build it up though.
