While looking for a cheap dedicated server I came across hetzner. They have some extreamly cheap dedicated servers up for auction. An example is a 4TB server with 32GB and running at 3.50GHz for only $25 per month. This sounds too good to be true. The only downside I am aware of is they don't have dedicated server but it is possible to get some type of ddos protection I am pretty sure (correct if wrong) and I will be paying someone to do that.

This would be for a small mini games network. 10 servers at most. Anyone have experience with it? Thanks.

Hetzner use Arbor networks to protect their infrastructure. It’s decent DDoS protection and long are the days where they’d just null route the entire rack. However there have been a few reports of this since moving to Arbor.

All in all it’s decent protection however OVH mitigation is still far better.
Speaking of OVH, I found kimsufi. It is a low range dedicated server company made my OVH. Any experience with them?

Yeah, you get what you pay for basically. Some of the lower spec machines really aren’t worth buying but their higher cost servers are pretty good.

Take a look at SoYouStart too, another subsidiary of OVH.
If I were to buy a server from Kimsufi it would be a 4c/4t 2.8GHz 16GB server for $22.99. Should this fun fine for a few MC servers?

I personally use hetzner and have absolutely no complaints. The only catch is that they only have European locations, but other than that, I'm very happy with my 3 dedicated servers with them.

Hetzner works fine for TCP-based applications.
Where they fall short is due to Arbors bad game filtering. For Minecraft, you are fine, but for anything source related (or any other UDP based) you'll have to do some heavy configs with their firewall and more to work against layer 7 attacks.

I use VPses on David’s machine and I have my own dedicated with them aswell they are nice I havnt had a isssue at all[DOUBLEPOST=1537886723][/DOUBLEPOST]There support is quick aswell quicker than OVH and more helpful and reliable
Pretty sure Hetzner doesn’t have ‘reliable’ support. Anytime I’ve used them they have barely spoke English and failed to help me solve my issues, even though it was hardware related.

Their support isn’t top of the line, so if you aren’t sure how to manage your own server - don’t use Hetzner. If you wanted a managed server, go for something on MCM or a known Minecraft Hosting company as your server most likely relates around that area.

Hetzner is fine if you are on a budget. The reason it’s so cheap is because it’s used hardware, it can also be from broken hardware some of the parts were salvaged from that. They won’t replace the exact cpu so be warned there. But it’s much better then kimsufi in my opinion.

I have heard this before too but, this was a while ago. Apparently they are way better now. And I am fine, I wouldn't think I need any help setting it up.

Do they still require first time customers to send over documents to prove identity?

I use hetzner around 7 months for my minecraft network and never had any problems.
Server had 470 players online and there was no lag or tps drop.

Hetzner got way better in past few months, I know they didn't even had a ddos portection a year ago.
I would definitely give hetzner a try as I switched from soyoustart to hetzner and it's better. You get more for cheaper.
i7-6700, 64gb ddr4 and ssd for around $60? That's really cheap.

They do require new clients to provide documents, they require an ID and a picture of the front and back of the credit card used with purchase. This is put in place because their low prices attract a lot of spammers and users that intend to use the server for illicit use.
