Yes i expect everyone to say no,

but in a small world, is it possible to make a server successful with 5 dollars a week?

If you believe that in 2018 it is possible, please give me tips, thank you

As a side note:
any tips on making money underage(aka i cant get a job)

UPDATE : Considering the majority say that with 5 dollars I can make a decent server successful, then i am doing just that, now please tell me what you guys think of the gamemode survival for the server, is it going to be bad or like not popular? Obviously a nice survival with jobs and such,

Other then that I was thinking a skyblock server, even though i suck at making them.

Please give me your thoughts on a good gamemode that would help!

please also link me some websites that could get a few members in the discord server that will launch :D

High performance, consistent uptime and fast support. Minecraft hosting that just works.

You can if you're making it with right people who are ready to risk their time.
But again, it depends what's successful for you.
It could have 5~ players what's again successful because you only spent $5.
It could have 50+ if you have contacts with some youtubers and they are ready to record for free.

If you have all skills required to make a minecraft server with all of assets (Logo, website, plugins, and etc.) you can easily get nice
playerbase for low budget. (50+ for like around $150)

It used to be easier on 2016. Its hard these days due to servers offering and absurd amount of money to tecnically just buy players to play on their server. Even tho its all bs and its mostly buycraft credit.

I started on 2016 making a server with like $15 on minecraft hosting pro then changed to meloncube and worked around it for like a month with the help of people that played on it turned out on a 40 - 80 active playerbase in no time. Then die cuz shitty host and i was busy with exams omegalul

But just saying you dont require hq setup or anything of that sort to get a decent 40 pb. My logo for my 2017 server was shitty didnt even had a website and had half broken hcf core. Yet plenty of youtubers played and made lets plays for free and got around 40 - 60 pb on sotw with no advertisement other than $20 for Jaisin to upload the trailer lol
That is inspiring for sure, but idk if it is possible in 2018[DOUBLEPOST=1538498841][/DOUBLEPOST]
Yes. It'd be difficult, especially if you can't do things such as development, graphic design & website design, as that tends to be the things that cost the most money - if you know how to do things yourself it'd be much easier, I personally started a server out with a small budget and made $105 in 2 weeks, and I probably spent no more than $25 a month (incl. hosting), graphic design I used a free designer for a basic logo, used a free website design, didn't use custom plugins and limited the premium plugins I used.

It's obviously not recommended, and it's not easy to do, but If you want to try it then I say go for it. It might not work out, but keep trying. In regards to making money, there are multiple ways. Get into some form of staffing (Management, administration), development (plugin, bot, website) - It's all time-consuming, however if you're able to get decent at something you can make good money off of it just from websites such as mc-market.[DOUBLEPOST=1538476851][/DOUBLEPOST]
you'd also be correct, depending on the server, with a small playerbase 3GB should be enough. I currently use 3gb for skyblock/prison, and 2gb for creative.
Yes, thank you , i am going to startworking on the setup[DOUBLEPOST=1538498912][/DOUBLEPOST]

Just don't spend money on a host while creating the setup. Make it on a localhost and when you KNOW your ready. Get a host and upload the files. It gives you more time to perfect the server.

I know your situation since I have met the owner of BattleMade who told me his story and we became very good friends since. He thought me a lot about servers and I shall pass some tips to you. The owner of BattleMade started his server with $20, which was just enough for a host. Anyway here are the tips:

Don't be bothered using free templates and free plugins. I can legit tell you one thing, whole OstiaPvP or BattleMade or whatever server you name me, I could probably create an exactly same version of them mostly using ONLY FREE plugins. I have been there, I have made great quality servers in the past using free plugins and making websites & graphics using templates that I simply adjusted. And lets face it, most servers that start off are using nulled versions of like everything, be careful if you want to use them(they may have bad code or malware) but I can't stop you from doing that.

Steps:

0) I assume you are a kid, under 15, therefor you probably have a lot of time. Do spend it learning how to code plugins since that is the most useful thing ever.

1) As for the server, you should save up for about 2 weeks and purchase a setup(or download a leaked one) from mc-market resources. I will not advertise any setups except mine as I designed it just for people like you that want to start out a server and have a very professional starting point. Yes, it is factions and factions is currently the most profitable type so I would go for it. ($10 as I will give you 50% discount ;))

2) Secondly you need an appealing banner & a domain. I would keep away from having PvP or MC in the name but its up to you. You should definitely get an eye catching banner. (Free templates online or make one in photoshop, just a static one for now.)

3) Purchase a domain. ($5)

4) Website is not as important since we have discord now. Go ahead and create a discord community and get as many players there as possible introducing so called Invite-rewards. (You decide what you want them to be but I would put decent rewards as it will help making your server notice-able: $100 buycraft (1st place), etc)

5) Since we have no website you must create a store using BuyCraft.net and find a free theme from mc-market to set it up with. Add some over powered ranks that players will buy which you can later nerf and make special deals. On top of that publish a 95% sale until release and keep advertising it on your discord.

6) Once you start gathering users on discord, you must make constant announcements regarding things you changed. Assuming you are using my setup, just go on the overview page and legit copy every feature with pictures and post it in the changelog, just to get the hype out there.

7) Alright, discord is getting more popular. Assuming you already have 200 members there. Now you should start announcing that you are hiring for staff.

8) Now you should plan the release and make a release channel with the top features the server offers and the release date. A release date and exact time is very important to gather everyone interested in playing to join all at once therefor making the server look more popular.

9) Ok, this is the most important part. FTOP rewards. You should reward top factions with rewards such as buycraft and later on paypal.

10) Now that you have everyone gathered and hyping for the over hyped release that for most part could be a little misleading you can go ahead and purchase a host. I have only used shared-hosting once and can recommend https://www.bisecthosting.com/ only. Get the 2gb server for now, it can easily hold around 50 players with my setup. ($5/mo.)

11) Make an appealing MOTD and set the player limit to something like 500 using a plugin. And one more important thing that you may not like. A server your size is not very appealing to new comers that for example find it on a server list, therefor you should definitely spoof the player count 1.5x the amount there is.

12) With the sales and ftop rewards and an appealing to the eye server you should get around 20-30 players on for release without any major adverts. Just make sure to get the discord server popular.

13) Keep pushing out updates and keep yourself updated with the factions industry to offer the most up to date features(I will try to include them with my setup).

I legit had no time to write all this so I might have skipped a lot of information. So please message me if you have any questions.

Once you reach 30-50 players and around $150 monthly donations, contact me and I will help you expand.

Make an appealing post and post it everywhere. Mc-Market, PlanetMinecraft, MinecraftForums etc.. Then join 100 other discord servers and post it there. Then introduce the invite-rewards will get your discord members to invite friends. And you should slowly grow.

It is possible to get somewhere with a low budget, I started with $30 and made $10,000 you just have to have contacts and friends.
I have no contacts. And no friends[DOUBLEPOST=1539207952][/DOUBLEPOST]
The key is attracting an audience, to do this simply create another rank like "vip" give it no extra perms but have it slightly different from the guest or member role that someone would get if just joining a normal server. People are more enticed to stay and play if they have a free "donor" rank ;), so make sure you put it in the buycraft also for like a dollar or something.

The second piece I have for you is regarding attention also, do drop parties, while they can ruin your economy if done badly, everyone wants that one special item they can get to put themselves above eachother, I recommend dropping around 16ish crate keys and the rest items you can get from grinding out in your faction, island, whatever. If you plan on making a survival server or smp, I recommend NOT doing drop parties as the faster players progress through survival, the less they'll want to play, ie, they'll get bored.

Third, if you have alt accounts, use them on your server, everyone wants to play on a populated server that has atleast some kind of playerbase, if you have a plugin that kicks afk accounts, make an anti-afk machine with water or whatever to keep the accounts online. The goal once again is for players to feel welcomed and that there is a community. Also it is statistically proven that people will go to a side with more people, "mob mentality" would you say. That's why multiplayer games often soar high above single-player ones and often will create a seperate multiplayer game or add multiplayer to it (ex: Stardew Valley, Don't Starve, etc)

Fourth, don't worry about where you advertise, much like a buisness you need to get your "product" known, to do this you can DM advertise (don't mass dm advertise or do this in a market as people aren't looking necessarily for playing), look for players that want a new community or if you are a faction server, invite faction owners and give them a slight buycraft advantage at the release of the server (20-25$ works well for factions of 10 members, increase this by 20-25$ every 5 members after this). You want players en masse, as I've stated before, people want to play with other people, not by themselves. Of course this is altered if the aspects of your server are to play alone, like a rpg. Overall, @Novacaine is right about advertisement, however you should be sparing as to when you advertise as you don't want to get your server a bad rep like DivineJas did by mass dming users on discord.

Fifth, look for youtubers that are bored or with small sub counts that would upload for free, offer crate keys for reuploading the trailer or perhaps a dollar per 100 views on the trailer, however make sure that views are not botted as once again, ruining the economy will tank the server, if a faction is 50 million ahead of another 2 hours into the map, it's likely players will feel they can't catch up and therefore won't play.

Sixth, do giveaways and invite rewards. Nothing you give away has to cost money, players are often content with either in game currency or crate keys, perhaps for higher invites offer paypal, however make sure that these players will be actual users and not bots, to do this simply check the invite time when all the users joined, as a fast period of time almost proves that they botted your discord.

Seventh, offer staff applications at all times and promote it, people naturally want power, this can be done by being staff on a minecraft server, despite how sad that is, it's true. If you can convince users to apply for staff, you can get them to stay on the server in hopes of it, with even accept a few staff members and letting them go, it's likely they will stay because of the time they had invested in the server. (be careful with fly and gmc for factions, staff members playing WILL abuse this to put their faction ahead).

OPTIONAL ::::::: AHEAD :::::::: ONLY IF YOU HAVE SOME MONEY GENERATED

Eighth, FTOP or ISTOP or best build gets X amount of money. You can always mix in extra buycraft or attempt to persuade users by offering a significant amount more buycraft credit than paypal, however if the users choose paypal you of course need to pay up, therefore only offer how much you are certain you can pay, you can always hire someone to calculate the projections of your server (a sales forecast).

Those are all my tips into gaining $$ and also getting a playerbase, hopefully they helped.
Thank you. These have really helped me!

Thats why u had to spam advertise your server on it.
i advertised my faction on it, and like i told you in the discord i @ ed you like 20 times but you ignored it. If you're that bad at making discords you deserve to get advertised on lmao

This thread is quite interesting. I believe that you can do it if you do it right.

Firstly, I personally recommend that you start up a server that isn't oversaturated by lots of crappy servers or will be dominated by larger servers. Try to avoid a dying community as well. (So basically don't create an HCF server) Secondly, only spend on the necessities as you start out. If you're just developing and configuring your server, do it on localhost or a free server host. For graphics, I would try it out myself and then ask around for tips and ways to improve. With your personality and friendliness, I can't imagine it being hard for people to go out of their way and help you like I'm seeing on this thread. I cannot give advice for advertisement as I'm not very sure what methods work and which ones don't, besides paying YouTubers which is something you cannot do with $5. All I can really say is know your target audience and think about what they want and what they would play or even spend money on.

In summary, try to do things yourself for free and network around for free help from the community. Only spend money on things that cannot be obtained for free such as quality hosting and a domain. Know what your target audience wants. I wish you luck with your endeavors and I hope my thoughts helped out a little bit. :)
