Basically I have heard that Minecraft is dying from all of the changes they are making to it. The policy for no p2w ran a lot of servers out of business because they were getting money for those donations. As a developer that was also a good way to earn money. So coming back I know I can earn money from plugins and working for a server but is it worth or should I just focus on other games and mobile apps.

High performance, consistent uptime and fast support. Minecraft hosting that just works.

Depends on how much money you can earn from a project

I think you should learn web language, like Ruby, it's a hard language to learn but the demand is very high which means that if you master Ruby you can actually make a lot of money.

1. 95% of servers are still getting away with having P2W donor perks. Check any voting site.

2. Minecraft isn't dying. Most people don't like change. Updates involve change and until they get used to it they'll claim it's bad or killing the game. This happens every update but eventually people get used to it and really prefer it over older versions. Even when Minecraft 1.8 came out it was disliked for a long time by a lot of people then it started being more accepted throughout the community. Same thing with 1.9+. You see this with other games too, such as Runescape. Yes, there was a large part of the community that quit the game after the Evolution of Combat was released. However, Runescape 3 is still thriving today with an active community.

3. For plugins vs apps, that's really up to you. But if you want actual steady income then I recommend getting an actual programming job. By this I don't mean for a Minecraft server as many only last a few months to a year. I mean programming for a business or company. Of course, that has higher requirements so it depends on what you're capable of.

The issue with apps is there are so many and many of them are owned by professional companies. Thus there's a lot more competition. Both (apps and plugins) are inconsistent profit though (for most people) unless you're the lucky one out of a million that get their app incredibly popular.

If you aren't trying to make a living off programming (paying bills etc), I recommend just doing what you're interested in, it'll be more enjoyable and thus you will be more successful in that field. For example, if you hate making plugins and only do it for the money, you'll probably do a terrible job debugging and fixing it after you've been paid. And because you slacked on that part, you will be poorly rated and any reputation you had will be gone.
