Hey all! I was just thinking about something. Is it even worth making a minecraft server anymore? The competition is a lot larger now especially with new servers coming out almost every day, is putting the time and money into into a server even worth the effort anymore?

It is very unlikely you'll get rich off of a minecraft server. However if you put in a lot of time and money you can make a pretty good income from it

If you're making your own custom game mode? I think so!

By "Custom Gamemode" I actually mean something never seen before, such as your own MMORPG or your own Minigame that players would enjoy! It's extremely hard to make servers profitable these days due to saturation in the factions and skyblock scene, but I believe if you make something that hasn't been seen before, you can do pretty well for yourself and make countless memories along the way. It will take some time to produce a quality server, but In my opinion, it's worth it.
I was thinking this too. It's just finding something new is the most difficult part because a lot of ideas have already been thought of.

Not really unless you got a huge advertisement budget or get featured by a famous YouTuber.

This can be answered very easily. If you want to do it because you genuinely like project management and ownership of a community, then 100% do it. You will learn a lot about staff management, trust issues, and expenses & income.

If you want to make money from it. There are a million things that will make you more money online that have an easier cost to entry. Whether that be taking a couple classes on a skill or being creative and starting a monetizable Discord community.

Regardless, owning a server is not as easy as it used to be. I used to own a server with 300 average players daily called ReaperMC. All we had to do was pay a Youtuber $200 a week and we made $20,000 upon new map releases. Now, everything is saturated by million dollar holding companies that are literally partnered with Microsoft now like the Hive and others.

I recommend you learn to code, create digital art, digital marketing, etc. If you want to get your hands dirty with pretty much guaranteed results, buy a pressure washer, borrow a printer to print out 20-30 flyers, and knock on your neighbors doors saying you will pressure wash their driveway for $150.

If you ever want to talk and learn some of the things I have tried send me a message on Discord. Hembessy#0001
