It should be 'depends on knowledge' only. What if someone younger has more experience than someone older? There are many cases of this, age shouldn't matter(in this case) other than legal reasons. If the person is mature and young, so be it. Consistency could be another important variable.

Don't pay for this shit, it will get you nowhere, it takes many hours to learn a programming language.

Go read this book here:
http://pdf.th7.cn/down/files/1411/Java For Dummies, 6th Edition.pdf

Do the examples etc and properly get into it, open the PDF on your tablet or computer and just read, after you learn java you can then go to the SpigotAPI.

It's pretty stupid saying that mentors will get you nowhere. That's definitely not the case.

If that's the case then name me a developer on here that has paid to be taught be someone else and has carried on to become a decent developer?

Then go and ask any good programmer on this site where they learned to code and 90-95% of them will say a book, because that is the best way to learn and has been since programming became a thing.

Programming for the most part is about being self sufficient, the best programmers I know are the ones that started out from a young age and figured things out for themselves, as you know programming is about being able to apply your own logic into code, the issue with being "mentored" is that it removes that self sufficient element from the initial learning period which is crucial when learning to code.

Then let's not mention the issue of when that person can't pay for the lessons any more and has become so reliant on their mentor that they don't bother going through and teaching themselves.

Lessons are a waste of time unless you're having more of a "tutoring" service, where you already have a bit of knowledge but get help from someone else, otherwise relying on someone else to help you learn programming is not the best way to go.

I've been mentored by many people. I didn't pay for it because they were my friends. Opening a book is not the answer to everything otherwise teachers wouldn't exist. I know plenty of people that know how to code and haven't touched a book. I've never touched a book (granted I read a lot of stuff online though).

I don't want to quote such a large post Mat

I was mentored by a successful Software Engineer. I would have happily paid for their time but luckily I became friends with them and didn't have to. Also, you definitely learn a lot at University. Part of the learning process is making friends with people there and exchanging knowledge. I have done exactly that at college with morganjp. People are better than books.

Anyway, I'm not replying to this anymore as there's no point.

Callam literally proving the point that I'm making, I'm saying not to pay to learn how to code. Because it will get you nowhere, as I said here:

That's cool if you got mentored by people for free, paying to learn is not the way to learn any programming language if you have no prior experience.

He has prior experience in programming https://gyazo.com/5b6b29c29200974a2577119b74b06c83

Anyway, we need to stop posting because unfortunately this guy didn't ask for our opinions and created this thread looking to pay for someone to help him learn.
