If I am going to be investing hundreds into advertising etc, should I go with KitPvP or Factions? Please only respond if you have had experience running both or either servers. I also know the server has to be unique and it will be. Thank you!
Yea the main thing im noticing is that KitPvP servers are really hard to balance both fun and monetization. The only fun KitPvP servers ive been on are all ones where you can get new kits by just getting kills. But they barely get any donations.I've only ran a faction server but I've helped out a few KitPvP servers. The problem with a KitPvP server is unless there's 30+ players they become very boring (my opinion). And also in my past experiences KitPvP servers end up with less donations unless played by a youtuber or streamer
Factions server can take some skill to run them if you try to make them original. . .Factions is by far the easiest type of server to run. Takes very little skill to run one. They're very popular, and there's more of them. However, spicing it up and giving it a new perspective would up the playerbase.
I feel you, but it just gets annoying when people say a server takes little skill to run. I believe it takes alot of skill for anyone to make their own server from the ground up. Unless people are just downloading all their plugins and builds then I think it's nice for a server "noob" to create a serverThat's what I implied. Generic Factions servers take no skill, but spicing it up and making a new version take skill.
What is bPermissions even? (Sorry for going off topic)When I said "no skill", yes, I was referring to kids who download maps off PMC and use bPermissions![]()
I remember when I first started a server up around 2-5 years ago we didn't know how to use PEX so we only use groupmanager and only did perms and prefixs in the server. We didn't even change any configsProbably the worst permissions plugin ever. Very simple and easy to use, but it's the worst. It's so simple it sucks. If you have Multiverse, you'll have to create a rank for each world. It's annoying.
Hey there.
I've ran my own kitpvp server before/moderated one, and I've administered a factions server before.
First off, kitpvp.
I've found it is really hard to keep a playerbase on kitpvp servers. You especially need good advertising, or a big youtuber to help jumpstart the server. The server I was moderating got a huge playerboost from getting a youtuber to record.
You also have to worry about hackers. A couple of players with a hack client can just ruin the whole experience.
(I found it extremely boring aswell, kill, die repeat. If you can come up with a unique kitpvp server idea that is more then this; go for it.)
Second, factions, I personally am I factions player.
Without a good playerbase it's boring aswell. There is also a bunch of other faction servers to choose from, lots of competition. You also need good advertising. If you're going to get a youtuber, find one that currently has/had a factions series. A lot of times, the youtuber starts a series and brings their fanbase. Their fanbase eventually quits if they have never played factions before. I've seen faction servers boom with donations, if done the right way. Factions can definitely pay off, you can potentially make a ton of money.
Best of luck with your server.

Factions, KitPvP is hard to get a playerbase with, but there are many fFaction servers, so I'd overall go with KitpvP and make it unique and cool.

Also, you should make a poll on the thread![]()

What if its a 10/10 map and perfectly set up. Do more players stick on SkyBlock or factions? and what about donations?Skyblock is pretty good if you have created the server right.
