Okay, so my laptop has been broken for a while now.
I have no clue what's wrong with it, my mom forgot after we took it to a repair store and they gave us a quote on how much it would cost, but they overcharged, so I don't even know anymore since that was like a year ago kek.

Anyways, I need help on how to fix it, or at least to know what is wrong, and how much it will cost to fix it.

Startup:
On startup, it goes to the screen that has the ASUS logo (it's an asus), and then near the bottom it says "Preparing Automatic Repair"
After that, it just goes to a black screen.
C a l l u m said it was off, but no, it isn't off.
It is literally a black screen right now.

Takes forever to start up as well.
You might be saying, "oh it just might be a bad CPU"
Well. It's an Intel i7, so I wouldn't say it's bad ;-;.

That's all I have for now, I'll update the thread once it's actually turned on...
or at least if it does turn on. .-.

Thanks,
Mango. :p.

HUGE UPDATE!

There was a blue screen that just said "Your PC ran into a problem, we'll restart it for you. 0%"
Then, it switched to a gray and blue screen, it didn't restart.

The top of the screen is
"Aptio Setup Utility - Copyright (C) 2012 American Megatrends, Inc."
American Megatrends is a motherboard company I believe (I got this for Christmas last year, so I had to look this up, since I didn't build my laptop)

Some things:
BIOS Vendor American Megatrends
GOP Version [dont know if i should put here]
EC Version [dont know if i should put here]

Processor Info: My CPU, which is an i7 like I said.
Total Memory: 4096 MB

Serial Number [not going to put here since i'm not a dumbo]

System Date, and System Time

Access Level Administrator

did you try turning it off and turning it back on?

jk :p

Try and call asus and see what they can do about it, see what they say and if they say anything about sending it in etc, id try and find a new agent to assist you. If worse comes to worse do the best you can to make a backup (if you can) and factory reset your pc.

If this does not work then take it to best buy and they could help repair it (For a cost unfortunately)

This is all I could think of to help you, so i hope I helped :p

Best of luck ~KRDX
Tried turning it off and back on, didn't work, all it did was now show up that blue and gray page about the motherboard company.

ASUS is usually a b*sh about stuff, and I don't want to go to a company because the purchase from Christmas from my parents was a while ago, and they just rush up things.

Can't really factory reset it if this screen is up, already tried to exit, just comes back to it. ;)[DOUBLEPOST=1486519052][/DOUBLEPOST]
Get new pc
I use laptops, because they are portable and just are good, I'm not looking at a PC any time soon, unless it's from a gift.

I'm using my current laptop now, but it is much lower quality CPU wise, and want to fix this other one asap.

If its getting to the automatic repair, then its getting past post and booting into Windows. Just not getting any further.

Use a Linux live CD to get your files off the hard drive. Then reinstall Windows. Its more likely a software problem, rather than a hardware one. Usually if its a hardware problem, you wouldn't get this far. Though not always, so would have to see if it still didn't work.

It likely could be fixed without reinstalling the OS, but with the info given, and the sake of time. It might just be easier to reinstall it.

How would I reinstall windows? I can't even exit this blue and gray screen that's from a motherboard company thing

Check your laptop to see if there is a sticker on the bottom, that has the key on.

On Windows 8 and newer machines, they usually have the license key stored somewhere in their BIOS instead of a sticker. Not 100% sure how it all works in regards to actually getting the software activated with it and such but a bit of research will resurrect that.

It honestly sounds like a motherboard issue as sometimes it seems to boot so it is not the hardrive and I highly doubt it is ram or you would get a blue screen with a mem error
motherboards cost like $200+ rip

It's getting past a post from the sounds of things, as long as the logo and shit shows and it passes that stage, the motherboard is fine. A simple re-installation of the OS will fix the issue for sure.

If its a motherboard issue, you're screwed basically. Take the RAM and CPU out and stick them on eBay.

Replacing a laptop motherboard is a pain in the arse, even for those that have done it quite a few times. The likely hood of breaking something else while doing so, is also possible. Its just easier to buy new.

A mobo can still post if it is dying, it just may be unstable (Not work most of the time). Which seems to be his case, but a windows boot file could be corrupted as well, it is possible.

It seems that I restarted it one more time and it gave me the options to troubleshoot, but when I tried to refresh / factory reset it said that the drive windows was in was locked, so it may just be an OS problem where I have to reinstall it through a DVD/CD
