If you've learned to speak another language what advice would you give to a new learner? I'm currently trying to learn Spanish, i've been practicing daily since I made it a goal of mine to start learning this year. I know this isn't something you pick up on quickly but i've been struggling with trying to learn and communicate with people fluent Spanish.

Try to find other people to help you. As in talk to them in the language you are trying to learn.

Honestly, I'd recommend watching movies and playing games with Spanish subtitles on more often. Other than that, talking to others that speak Spanish, whether that be some sort of trip you take or joining a Spanish discord server.

If you haven't already tried it, I would use Duolingo. Pretty helpful when it comes to learning new languages in my opinion.

I second this, Duolingo is quite useful. You can also try playing games in Spanish with English subtitles, and maybe grab a course on Udemy. But one of the best tips I could give you is to get along with native speakers, you will learn how to pronounce some words by just listening to them and even grow an accent!

Other than that, you need to have determination and time, since learning a new language is going to take some time, but it's easy :)

1.) Speak and write with a native speaker. Look up something akin to pen pals. There are a lot of people with Spanish as their native language trying to learn English, it would help both parties out tremendously. That is what I did in High School with my French class, took 4 years of French and I tell ya, it really really helped.
2.) Watch movies and tv shows with Spanish dub/sub and the opposing dub/sub in English. We watched a TON of French movies with English subtitled first two years, and then went to both sub and dub French. (I cannot recommend video games as no experience there myself but I feel like you would be distracted by other things in games)
3.) Keep a journal of progress written in Spanish.
4.) Join a group of other new Spanish leaners.
5.) Look at using apps to assist when needed.
6.) If you have the money, buy a Rosetta Stone license. (https://www.rosettastone.com/) I have been learning both Korean and Japanese with them and it has gone relatively well.

Right now I only know some basic phrases and greetings in Spanish and i've been practicing since January. I'm really dedicated to learning and hope to have a lot of improvement in vocabulary and pronunciation this year.

In school I had my 2nd language French for 3 years. Then because of my shifting I couldn't learn it further. I am talking about almost 10 years ago. I don't totally remember everything, but recollect few basic words and phrases. A couple of days ago I found 2 of my old french books, that made me wanted to resume my french study. Can you speak, read and write in full sentences with the help of Duolingo after a certain amount of time? In what other ways can I learn it in free?

I've been using Duolingo now for about a week and i'm not too far in on it yet (still on the introduction part) and it's been working well from me just doing a little bit of practice each night I start to memorize it more. I know a lot of the more common words but have been struggling to form sentences as well as under stand others who speak to me (i'm only able to understand a few words most of the time) my end goal is to become fluent and hopefully travel.

Try playing some Minecraft on Spanish servers. I'm sure it will help. Interact as much as possible with other players.
I know a lot of people that perfectly learned my language just by playing Minecraft/Other community games.
