Hello McM! I would like to start to learn to code minecraft plugins, I don't know much about coding nor java.. What do you guys recommend doing to start off? What do I need to download to start coding? I understand coding is not something you learn instantly. But i'm willing to put in the time and effort.

I personally learn java first, I bought a course from udemy.com that originally costs 195$ but I bought it for 10$ because of discount, and the discount will end in 6 days.

For just basic things I recommend you watch PogoStick you will save some money untill you get the Java a bit more.
Later you can take courses..
No point in waiting to take them, when you can take them now for cheap.

Yes that is true if it is only 10 bucks, but throwing 200 just so you can make announcer plugin (example) is not smart hah :'D
It teaches alot more than creating an announcer plugin, but you're right 200$ is an ass price, hence the reason I said do it now, cause its only 10$ until the 31st.

The way I personally learnt how to code (in general, but I also know a fair bit of Java) is decompile a bunch of stuff, figure how that stuff works, stitch them together in a new way. The problem with that is that you're often going to find that your way of coding is messy, so I'd then use tutorials you can find online as a helper and a gap filler for what you don't know, that way you can learn at your own pace.

It's different for everyone; I never found online stuff helpful for me too much, but it might for other people.

oof.
Could be a decent way to learn I suppose, but OOF
Or download the source code, I wouldn't go decompiling premium stuff. Tbh, I mostly downloaded the source code if it was available, later on I went decompiling and went to see if I could get anything out of that.

Edit: I'd recommend getting thatjava dec course I just did and after learning Java for a few months buy a course on spigot API, I bought 2 courses on spigot before anything on Java and found it really hard but others I asked learned Java for 3-6 months before touching spigot and bukkit and also Java is more useful to use in the real world.

Don't go to Spigot right away learn Java from » sololearn.com then maybe watch a lot of thenewbostons tutorials their always great and get a few books but what-ever you do don't get to spigot instantly.

Personally, I learned to code by fooling around with Visual Studio, Batch, Arduino, and such when I was 7. From there on, I learned all kinds of other things and how to code in Java. For you, it will probably be different.

Here are several options:
1) Get a course on Udemy. I would recommend https://www.udemy.com/java-the-complete-java-developer-course/
2) Look at all the code you can, and learn how it works. Try to figure out more efficient ways to do it.
3) Do challenges once you get a basic understanding of Java. What I mean by this is there are places with all kinds of programming challenges that you can take on. I know that PogoStick did a couple of these such as Digits > Binary (or something similar) in Java.

I would recommend not learning Spigot or anything Minecraft-related yet. Learn Java first as it's the foundation. A lot of YouTube tutorials can be nice, but they are also littered with bad practices and can be very shoddy quality. It depends on how you learn whether it's by videos, articles, etc.
