Hey guys, I've come across this problem a few times now and it's really getting on my nerves. I've made a build with a roof, then it turns out to be really dark. By that point I'm forced to add glowstone, redstone lamps, hidden endportals or glowstone hidden under carpets. Endportals work as a good solution but they cause framerate drops.

Here's my build (I built this on the server that I'm admin on, that's why there are people talking):

As you can see I've already added glowstone hidden under carpets, glowstone incorporated into the build and endportals.

Am I being oversensitive or is this a real problem?

Should I just go crazy with the endportals and not care about the frame drop?

What do you more experienced people do? Are there any tricks for fixing this problem?

The best thing to do is to make light and shadow work for you. First make the basic shapes, then determine where the lights will go, then put most of the details at the edge of where light becomes shadow, leaving the very lightest and most shadowy parts relatively un-detailed.

You could install a plugin that adds ambient light
