Most use dual core E5's or single core i7's.

That is incorrect, Hosts normally use quad cores+ Normally even octocores

Dude were talking about MCM host they usually use single core i7's where are you getting your information from. If I'm not mistaken strong single core processors work the best for minecraft hosting.

Single core proccessors can barely run modern systems, let alone powerful servers. You must be mistaken sir,

Hi,

For FastSRV we're using

Dual Xeon E5-2680 V2 (40x @ 3.6 GHz)
1 TB Samsung 850 PRO SSD
256 GB DDR3 ECC RAM

As our budget line. As El_Tristanio stated earlier it is common for hosts to use E3/E5/i7 processors.

+1 for the idea of having a thread or website with everyone's hardware and pricing, sorted by CPU benchmark score and pricing.

I think you're a bit mistaken with your terminology.

Hosts use dual/single CPU's (ie. the number of physical processors in the server), not cores. Each CPU may have multiple cores. For example, i7's have 4 cores and 8 threads while E5's have 6-8+ cores. Minecraft servers run its main game logic on a single thread, so users that host with higher clocked processors will usually see a bigger performance boost

That's amazing when a 'Co-Managing Partner' can't even get the basic terminology right... No offence bud.

Quick side note Andy Willis - Your website doesn't even load.

Yes, the terminology was wrong core was supposed to be processors.

Please don't be petty bud I'm sure you knew what I meant to say.

Hosting sites take months of development unfortunately our website is not ready right now because its run by a larger company whom is taking ages to build it.

So, for Minecraft E5s, E7s < i7? Just wanting to make sure I understand, and it's due to the ghz it can run at.

Lol, at least explain why you think that you shouldn't use one.
MC servers run better using a high frequency CPU, your claiming your using a £6,000 CPU for MC hosting (E7-8890 v4) that runs at 2.2Ghz. This isn't made for MC hosting, it's for AI related tasks (Like bank fraud by finding patterns in transactions that isn't natural).

Okay, all I wanted is an explanation to it because we can easily get i7s if we wanted as well. We're just wanting to make sure we get the best specs for our host.

This is what I would use if I were you this is what I currently use of course you'll need to add some ram to it and the power supply is an overkill aside from that this would work perfectly. You'll also need to adjust the hdd as you need it, I personally like tower colo over 2U servers just personal preference but you can as well put it in a 2U server. You won't need the GPU either that was just part of my build.

The PSU isn't server grade and It'll probably break a month or two in from the server being up 24/7, the CPU has a lower clockspeed than the I7 and won't preform as good for MC hosting.

Its just what I/we use and we've been having them running quote a while more than two month without issue. Keep in mind we use them for more than just mc though so maybe an i7 is better for him but the i5 would be better versatile wise. In my opinion that is.
