It's a way of gaining respect from other developers and proving that you aren't a fraud. You can't run a forum for developers if you aren't one of them.

Most developers are lazy and don't want to waste time to create a forum from scratch when they can just use Xenforo. Anyway this project does seem a little amateur and I doubt it will take off... (maybe it could be a minecraft developer forum, considering most mc forums use xenforo anyway...)

That is exactly my point. A forum that they actually built themselves wouldn't make them seem like an amateur project which is the vibe they are currently giving off.

The vibe I think they are trying to give off is that it's a small niche community of developers just trying to help each other out. I don't think they are trying to be the next stack overflow. It's kind of like this forum. Comparing them to stack overflow is like comparing mcmarket to Amazon.

I wasn't comparing them to stack overflow. It was meant to show how much better stack overflow looks with a website that they wrote themselves. Imagine if they used Xenforo.

I've given your suggestions to the owner. Right now, we're looking to increase our member base. We'll discuss making a custom forum application once we reach 1,000 members or so.
