Hello,

My name is Nils, but in-game I am usually known as Xervoo. I have browsed mc-market daily for around 3 months now and have noticed that there are a bunch of really friendly people with knowledge of running munecraft servers here giving advice to other server owners that aren't as experienced (like me). So I thought I would ask here what would be the next logical step for making my server grow.

Ok, so my recently me and my partner opened a OPPrison server. Now you may think, why? We don't need another one. And that is true, but we still thought we would make one since we had some original ideas. Now 3 months after starting working on it we have released a working version of the server including some of the more original features we have added. My intention wasn't too ask for feedback (although it's always appreciated), instead it was to ask what the next logical step for growing the server would be. For this some information is needed.

1. Currently the server is hosted on a Nitrous Networks server (has been working okay) with enough ram to never max out.

2. Our current player base is of around 10 - 15 players daily ( maxing out at 10 players on at a time sometimes, usually around 4 - 5)

3. We have some money to spend (200 $).

I myself have been thinking about getting a VPS or a Dedicated Server. Only problem about a Dedi would be that at this point we don’t know if donations will stay at the amount we have gotten this month also the next month, so we do not want to rush into a decision, to later be at the point having to downgrade from a dedi again. What would you say is the best way forward for my server?

The IP of the server is: mc.planetarycraft.net,

and the website is: planetarycraft.net

Thank you for your time,

~Xervoo

I personally don't think you should add another server until you get around a 50 playerbase. 3 reasons. When you have 2 servers with 10 players only 5 players would play on each server. Also 200$ isn't alot of money for dedicated servers in the long run and paying for advertising. Plus people quit after they add another server. I suggest using the money for advertising for .org slots and youtubers or streamers. After you get a 50 playerbase then you should start considering this. :) I hope this is helpful.

I agree with the part about not adding another server, what would you say about getting more powerful hardware to run it on? At the moment players have experienced some block lag from time to time, and with more things slowly being added, I am not sure how long a shared host would hold up.[DOUBLEPOST=1440482093,1440481798][/DOUBLEPOST]Would there be anything bad about upgrading to a VPS from, let's say RamNode?

Well I don't
Think you should stop using shared hosting. You should switch to a dedicated server once your server is a network and don't switch to a vps. I suggest maybe switching to another shared host like shock byte, ggservers or something like that
