I'm tired of people posting random compliments. I get it's a tactic to gain connections and it works to some degree, people see someone being nice on random threads often enough and their popularity increases. How could anyone not like the nice guy? The thing is sometimes it's just so blatantly fake. I hope I'm not the only one who sees that. It's borderline shit-posting.
And I'm not saying these are shitty builds or anything, they look okay from the weird angles the pictures are taken at. I just feel like this could have been a dirt hut photo album and a lot of the comments would be the same with the exception of potatoes since he is actually offering something.

Here's what I'm trying to say if you're actually interested. I don't want to trash the thread so it's in a spoiler.
I'm saying that people's tendency to comment things based on if it will make them look good far outweighs what they are actually thinking on here. I get people are generally nice, but this forum feels like a mormon church sometimes..until you get to someone who posted something stupid at which point the objective becomes making fun of them and picking up two of three reactions to help yourself out.
When there is never middle-ground in how people behave the dynamic becomes incredibly inauthentic on a global scale. I could've posted this on any thread, it just so happened this was the amount of times I was willing to see things like this before getting irritated enough to say something about it. And maybe I shouldn't say anything about it, no one will get it, it won't be popular, but from any outside perspective not in this strange microcosm of a forum I know people would agree.
My reaction when looking at this post was "They're okay, can't really see much from the pictures.". So from that how is it when I look down people feel the need to comment on how nice they are and invite build team leaders to the thread? We've all seen worse builds, we've all seen better builds. The reaction is too extreme for what people actually think about it.
And let me stress, nothing against the builder. I think if he'd taken better pictures you might've seen more of his talents and that he has a lot of potential. The fourth one of the wall in particular looks good but the picture is taken from such a bad angle you can't see much. Just right now, at this moment, it doesn't seem like anything out of the ordinary to me. I really do feel half bad about posting this rant here, it honestly could've happened on a lot of threads. I apologize for that.
So many people are full of shit on here I think it's time for a break from these forums. The drama reminds me of middle-school and I really didn't like middle-school very much looking back on it. On here everything is either great or terrible and if you disagree with that you are terrible. Had enough of it, done for now. I love minecraft enough where I'll probably be back here at some point but that's really the only attraction.

Yeah, you're right and I would, but I've spent enough time arguing with people for now. I'll put this one in spoilers though.
I don't fully agree with you. If no-one would react on a thread I would just have made, I'd feel like I made a really bad build or I'm offering a really bad service. It's a kind of appreciation you're giving towards someone else. You could see it as shit posting, but in my opion this keeps the forums alive and friendly. It would be weird to start giving warnings for "Being too friendly" or something similar. Let's not focus on this, but on people who post unnecessary negative comments.
But all right, as Ivain said, make a thread in the General Discussion section about this, maybe it becomes more clear what we've to do.
