The Oxfordshire Scout Minecraft Server is looking for a developer.

The Role is voluntary as the server is charity-funded and doesn't make any income.
In terms of skill, we need someone who has an understanding of configs of the most common plugins and experience of spigot or bukkit coding.
However, you must be:
  • A UK Citizen (ideally living in Oxfordshire)
  • Be involved in a Section of the UK scout movement and be 14 years old or older.
  • If, over 18 you need to have a Scouting DBS.

High performance, consistent uptime and fast support. Minecraft hosting that just works.

Good luck to you, but why would anyone who is experienced and who spent years of learning and coding work for free?

Thank you for your Question.
The reality is that I can't and don't expect people to.
Scouting is a volunteer lead organization with very few paid jobs across the Charity.
So I don't expect people to join but if people already volunteer in scouting and want to help out then I am more than happy to welcome it.

Why is a developer required to live in the UK and be involved in some way with the scouts? As long as they're skilled and gets the work done, then it shouldn't really matter - I understand timezones and what-not, but will they require some knowledge of the scouts for your project?

Thanks for your Question.
They will need to live in the UK partly for the timezones however more to the point is the vetting process used in scouting (DBS) which is a required background check for doing anything with people under 18 in the UK. And per The Scout Associations Guidelines, it is required for over 18's (there are some other reasons as well). There are exceptions like if the person is part of British Scouts Overseas however this is unlikely.
And for under 18's, we mandate that they be part of a scout section whether it be as an Explorer or Young Leader.
However, to answer your question it is to make sure guidelines and safeguarding practices are used to protect young people.
Hope this helps,
