Most hosts resell OVH/SYS or a box from another dedicated hosting company
It's nice to see a company invest in their own servers instead of reselling. I understand that some can't, but then you have to take into consideration you're getting a box that's being resold and not monitored as heavily as if they had it in physical possession
It's not reselling, rather it's renting a dedicated server to provide a service. Unless you're selling the exact same product, it's not reselling.. Just because a host doesn't own the hardware doesn't mean it's not monitored as much. I have several monitoring systems set up for TigerNode that will notify me if anything bad happens.

Notifying you when a server box that's across the united states goes down is not the same as being able to walk to your server and either fix or replace the issue. I never said there was anything wrong with it, but as someone who purchases from a place like OVH/SYS, you rely on them to fix the issue if it's a hardware failure.

Most hosts who own the hardware have the server colocated in a DC across the country anyway.. It's not going to make a difference. They still have to pay remote hands to replace the failed piece of hardware (unless they have their own staff there 24/7).

I understand that. However some hosts have data centers they can physically be in. There's nothing wrong with renting one and selling from it.

If you are interest in a dedicated server, hit me up I can hook you up with some deals. My company owns all of its own hardware and offers 40Gbps of DDoS protection included free with each dedicated server purchase in Dallas. Also, unlike a lot of the host's on this forum who are new, our company has been open since 2014 and host many servers with over 100+ players.
If you are interested let me know,

It makes a difference indeed, hosts that resell have to typically open a support ticket from their server provider to have an issue fixed (can take time to have it fixed). While hosts who have their own hardware can have staff near or at the datacenter they can call directly on the phone to have the issue fixed. On top of it, the percentage of hosts who fail are resellers and their failing can be due to lack of money because their profit margins are worse. I was at one point strictly reselling but I soon realized to grow a successful game oriented dedicated server company you need to own your own hardware. Not saying that every reseller is bad, but typically small startups who fail resell and has built a bad stereo type for the few good ones.

Exactly, if someone can resell a dedicated server and be good at it, kudos to them. There is a bad stereo type from kids open "companies" who resell and close. If you can survive reselling its a good way to start a company.

I am staff on a host called "ShatteredServers" we have a unique custom control panel in development, and our pricing starts at just $2.50/GB, but if that isn't cheap enough I could attempt to beat another hosting company's pricing. :)

I noticed how you kept calling it "reselling". Mind explaining to me how renting a dedicated server from OVH and providing a Minecraft hosting service is reselling? It's not the same product.

Dylan,
Obviously you did not read my post, you just wanted to assume I was talking about Minecraft hosting. So sure, I will explain to you what I mean't if you will read my post this time... As clearly quoted by you, I stated "I was at one point strictly reselling but I soon realized to grow a successful game oriented dedicated server company you need to own your own hardware." I was clearly speaking of people who resell dedicated machines from a provider, not people who offer shared hosting. I don't consider shared hosting reselling per se because it is a different service that you are selling then what you have purchased.

Please let me know if you need me to explain anything else.......
