Hello MCM -

I am looking for a 4gb - 8gb VPS, and I am looking to pay under $20. It needs to be able to run a minecraft server and have relatively "okay" specifications.. Also, I need to know if its better to just purchase a pre-made minecraft server from a company.

Thank you.

It depends. If you have managed Linux before and you know how to do it. Go with a VPS. Otherwise I suggest going with managed hosting unless you're open to learn and to find all kinds of issues that can possibly come up.

If you're interested in managed hosting, make sure to check out my signature!

Hi Archie! :)

We offer both VPSs, and Minecraft Servers.
I start at $5/GB, but I will go down to $4/GB if you purchase in the next 72 Hours!

Website: Click Here (ServerHQ.org)

I can go more in depth if you PM me, but I would say check out our Minecraft Hosting, we are starting to use the newest co-located node to serve demand.

Specs:

Intel Xeon E5-1650 v3
128 GB DDR4 ECC RAM
1 GBit/s Connection
Located in Germany
50GBPS DDoS Protection
Can't find the VPS's, only minecraft servers.

If you are looking for cheap VPS's and you know linux decently you can check out OVH, otherwise I would go for shared hosting.
You can PM me for discounts on shared hosting if you are interested.

Also, I need to know if its better to just purchase a pre-made minecraft server from a company.

Thank you.

Generally speaking a quality Minecraft hosting provider will outperform a budget VPS supplier. However if you wish to say load a website, voice server, and a Minecraft instance and you know your way around a Linux based OS then you could indeed get some "bangs for your bucks". Do not forget you also need to allocate some resources for the OS and even more if your using things like a control panel which can soak up 256MB-about a 1GB of resources before you even boot up the Minecraft server you wish to run. At the end of the day you could get a better operating Minecraft instance.

So at the end of the day I would recommend a Minecraft hosting provider if..
  • You do not wish/know/learn how to operate the VPS and everything you wish to run inside it.
  • Needs just a Minecraft instance
A VPS a great option if..
  • You wish to learn/know how to operate one
  • Then also great if you wish to run things more than a Minecraft server
  • Finally they can be great if you wish to use an alternative Minecraft Control panel (or if you prefer to go panel less).
I hope these honest insists help you decide what best for you.

I can give you a discount on my OpenVZ VPS for 4GB at $20/m. My OpenVZ are using i7-4790K's and SSDs. Send me a private message with a link to this thread if you're interested. I also have $3/GB Minecraft hosting on the same hardware (i7-4790K, etc.)
I'll look into it, thanks.

I run a building and a ts off of the 4Gb version. Don't judge the CPU by just its frequency IPC is not something that people usually take into consideration. Also it has HyperThreading, but to be honest with you I'm not sure how many treads will be utilized by a Minecraft server.
- blank face - what?

Basically, you'd be surprised how good it is for it's price. In my opinion its the best you can get for the price without going full out ghetto.
Okay! Would it be better than just getting a normal minecraft server?[DOUBLEPOST=1450213354,1450213163][/DOUBLEPOST]http://prntscr.com/9em0rw < which options?

I use Ubuntu the latest one usually. I feel like it is better than a minecraft server from a host.
Contact my Skype, Archie.Bukkit, thanks.
