Just keep in mind, on a lot of servers, players tend to leave after they find out the server is sold/being sold, especially smaller communities that have a lot of interaction with the owner.
True. Usually players inside smaller server are friends with the owner

personally i think trying to buy a server to try to get a profit is a bad idea. to me it should be about the community, here is my suggestion if you have server resources why not offer to host a server for free to start out with then suggest having donations put in place to help pay for it. I think people who go into server hosting trying to make a profit has the wrong idea. there is just so many other servers out there. To me the idea should be about the community not trying to spam for money. (i guess thats why some servers have such ridiculously priced "VIP" packages 
)
On that note. I happen to have two dedicated servers at the moment i bought that do not quite work out for me. If anyone who has a server set up already with say at least an average playerbase of around 5 peopleish or so id be interested in maybe helping host without charge aside from perhaps offering donations in the near future.
as to me it is more about the community then a profit. i have two i7 dedicated servers with 32 gb of ram each and around 250 gb ssd drives message me if interested.
