I kinda speed timed it but it looks fucking great imo. $10,000 is a lot tho so when u get it share a bit. It is really good
this was a "cheap" wedding, the company I edit for usually charges 60k+ xD. If you think about it... its not to much when you tax it, pay the cameraman, editor, and director (everyone else concerned)

Maybe some better colour correcting at the beginning and the music at the part they talk is a bit loud. But that’s my opinion

Hi there,

I am going to be honest here. I did not really enjoy it. I based my conclusion on the following few points:

-It is not eye-catchy at all. It is really basic. There is not alot of creativity going on. I know that you dont have 100% freedom in what you are going to edit since the client may want something diffrent. But you could of atleast added a bit more creativity in my opinion, but again, I would understand that the client maybe did not want that.
-It was more a docu instead of wedding video. I dont if that is supposed to be but it looked more like a docu.
-It also took me a while to figure out what was going on. I realized that it was a wedding video at 00:51. So for 51 seconds I didnt know what I was looking at. But looking at the fact that the couple will post it and people know they got married people will asume it their marriage video but still. I am looking from a diffrent perspective.

Another thing that annoyed me, which is not your fault, is that the camera is not balanced at all. The compostion really sucks in some shots. And I feel like the cameraman was really inexperienced. I might be wrong here but thats what I think.

I am cinematographer. NOT an editor. How ever I have been editing commercials, docu's and short films for bout 5 years now. I also would like to mention that this is not to offend you in any way, I am hoping to give you some feedback here.
Hello, feedback is always welcome! I'm open to all opinions, not everyone will be happy. I always say you can give me critique.. As long as you can explain it haha.

So regarding the first section being quite long, the couple would know this is a family wedding, they don't need it to be explained with a title saying wedding, the first sequence is simply to establish the scenes for the next section, where they exchange vows. My problem here is that establishing shots are quite important, and seeing as the couple paid 10k, I wanted to make sure I leave as much content in as possible rather than cutting down. Speaking about it being creative, I see it as creative, but in a different way to what MCM is used to. Here, im not creating effects and making it look visualy appealing, I'm creating a story, and creating family history, almost like a documentary, documenting a wedding. So it's important that I leave the effects at the door and edit to a story an dme sure I have everything in the video - that's more important than layering effects. About the camera, that wasn't filmed by me, but I see your point. Couldn't agree more there haha!

Anyway, back to the thing about creativity, having heard what I've said, how would you suggest making it more "creative"?

Regards, Philip K

I mean I'm not trying to trash but I've got some things to say...

I would've expected that for $10k, you would actually go more in-depth into editing, you basically just cut up clips and slapped some music behind it..

There's parts that are boring as fuck, I could literally fall asleep watching this video.. like when some dude is giving a random speech you should've cut it so he only says the really important stuff.

The finish is poor, you need some real colour correction, without it the clips look very bland, you could've also added some flicker and also some text in the intro, like saying the date and the names of the couple.

Like for example, look at Felix's and Marzia's wedding, it looks aesthetic due to the colour correction. The intro pretty much gives an overview of the event, like I said before you could introduce us to the couple and give us some background on the wedding.

The camera work is very basic and boring and the transitions aren't smooth at ALL, this also includes the song transitions which at times, felt a bit too forced.

Honestly, I feel like you could've done much more with this to give it a better finish, like, you're getting paid $10k after all...

Unfortunately that's out of my hands, client chose that[DOUBLEPOST=1579690899][/DOUBLEPOST]
The whole video look very generic and doesn't feel special at all; isn't the point of a wedding video to be remembered as well as looking and feeling special? The composition and music transitions didn't seem very smooth and some cuts felt out of place. The camera work isn't that great and feels very boring, looks like the work of someone who's never touched a camera before. The color grading and visuals overall are unappealing and don't stick out as much as a $10k project should.

Like you said previously, the $10k pricetag is quite reasonable for a wedding video but seriously, I feel bad for any newlyweds that spend that amount on a wedding video just to get this. If I'm spending $10k on a wedding video celebrating my marriage with someone who I'll spend the rest of my life with, I don't want it to look like a shitty middle school project.
Absolutely, couldn't agree more with the last paragraph

This particular production was a single camera production, so the cinematographer on this project had a lot to do. You can never know why the cinematographer panned away from the focus somewhere but you always just presume its becouse of something quite important haha. As i say, the point of this thread is to refine this video and I'm striving to produce the best possible output. Would you be able to give me an example of a unique and a wedding video that isn't generic just so I can see where you're comming from?

Colour grading wise, the cameraman had a high iso on his camera, which makes it really hard to grade footage without introducing camera grain. Id rather have bad grading than a lot of camera grain in the footage, but would you be able to show where exactly the grading stands out as bad the whole film in general or?

Thanks for your time[DOUBLEPOST=1579691107][/DOUBLEPOST]

Hi!

Thanks for your interest.

This particular wedding is our CHEAPEST package.. We sell 3 packages; classic. Cinematic and directors cut. This was classic. Which ment little colour grading and a linear timeline, with "basic" editing. This means I can't intercut sections like in marzias and felix's wedding becouse that wouldn't be linear, so I'm not able to introduce the bride and groom before the film starts, I'm only allowed to establish the wedding scene

I don't like using that as an excuse onto why it's 'poor' but that has some sort of impact on the product, just like everything else.

I do have a few comments on Marzia and Felix's wedding though. I do agree that it certainly looks very aesthetic, but I don't see much of a story behind it. I don't see the bride preparing for the wedding and there isn't much of a build up to the vows. This may be becouse the example you sent is a 6 minute wedding film, the client wanted this film to be a 12 minute film. Naturally that would mean sections would be stretched out a lot more. I do have to fix the speeches though, I haven't worked much on that yet

As I say I'm trying to make it look as good as I can possibly can (music was out of my hands) so I'll do my best. But thanks for you're interest and

Oh, one more thing. The company gets paid 10k, I get paid by the hour xD

Hey! I'm going to put this right out there and say while your camera is nice, there is a lot of work that could be done.
While the first song is really dandy, as fits the theme of a wedding and let's go ahead and admit that 70's music is usually pretty good. What is not good is your lack of camera movements, many of the shots are the same and there almost feels like a lack of creativity. Not to mention, I am unsure if going between an unfocused camera and a focused one was intentional, but it did not work. Furthermore, it seems you, the bride and her gals had access to several lighting features, which could've been used for the betterment of everyone involved. I, as a female, take great pride in photographing myself as well as my friends in lights that they're comfortable with (meaning it looks good on them) or at least editing the hues of the photo/video. Let me go ahead and say though the bride was beautiful, your camera action so close to her face gave the entire audience a glance at her pores (which I'll have you know no one wants to remember existed), and the fact her foundation didn't match the color of her neck. Any additions of lighter filters/fake light spots on the camera could have fixed this up a wee bit. That's everything I can name for the first 2 minutes. As for the actual recording of their marriage, cut the scenes of actual happy people! Don't show the videos of people dosing off, replying to someone else, or making odd faces, friendly reminder that it's a wedding. When you record the (hopefully) happily married couple, focus on them, especially the groom, he deserves some camera love too. Everything from here until the actual party is really nice! Awesome job. Some of the next songs, such as the one by Natalie Cole and the song with fancy slapped bass moves, could have more fun, loose transitions. The end with, September, was amazing! It started off great with color light spots, set the mood of a party. However, I did notice a badly cut video where it blacked out and moved to the next scene, so that might be another issue to watch for. September is obviously much faster than some of the tunes earlier, so it would be helpful if you took multiple scenes and played each cut after cut faster.[DOUBLEPOST=1579711667][/DOUBLEPOST]
