Looking for some opinions on a few server ideas I have!

First off some of these will not be 100% unique ideas! I am just brainstorming right now and typing as I go so bare with me if I drag myself off topic!

Vanilla survival server w/ a twist:

Players spawn in with 0 resources, nothing. They must now go off build a base and play minecraft like it was meant to be played.

There will be a item based economy and that means there is no currency. Players may trade with others to acheive item gain. Different players could specialize in selling different items. ex. Joe is the potato guy, go talk to him :p

Players will beable to protect there bases via protection stones or similar plugin, making raiding not a real objective of the game. Although unclaimed bases are fair game.

Possible implement a special currency such as sponge (which can't be obtained naturally) only through voting, donating, etc. It will be looked at as extremely valuable and can be used to trade for spawners and other rares at spawn.

PvP will be toggle able so you can have the odd fight with a friend (or enemy) than move on and play safely again.

A custom map could be used for added fun :)

Players will beable to buy stuff such as keeping items and exp on death and other helpful things.

Maybe even a quest system will be added where players can gather certain items to acquire sponge.

OP minecraft has taken over so I'm not sure how this will turn out, so like I said in the title, hit me with your opinions.

I will be adding more server types later, I just have to run to a drama practice.

Nice ideas, but there's no way you will be able to control players to say "You're the potato" guy. You won't be able to control that although nice idea!
Yeah I kinda meant that as players could specialise in something just for the heck of it. Gives them another thing to do :)

I really like the 'potato guy' idea. I think roles will make it fun, sorta RPG like.
Like make classes you can join with added perks? Or have people like write an application on the forum for a certain roll and then apply a prefix accordingly?

That seems like alot of work, but Something thats just like:

Hey, That guy over there is the farmer, go get food from him.

Hey, that guy over there is a miner, go get materials from him.

Have the players assign there own roles maybe?

Yeah that's what I was thinking. I was also had an idea of like posting ads/requests in a gui. They stay there for 24 hours from time of posting and if a player is searching for something you could contact them and make a deal.

I was also thinking if the community ever grew large I would need something so players could assign themselves roles. Maybe something like they can donate for the ability to edit their own prefix?

I really like your ideas! But you have to think of how people can abuse custom prefixes like that.

Kinda reminds me of the HermitCraft with the Hermits on YouTube tbh. Or one of those vanilla servers on mcf who are whitelisted and they only accept mature people and have like a super tight knit community and such. Sounds neat!
I am trying to find a way that a large community could all play vanilla together. I will start developing once I get some cash :)

How much are you looking to get? i maybe can help.
I'm not really sure yet. It all depends on how much I want to get done before I open. If I want gfx and advertising right away it will cost more. But just to get the server running I need some builds and plugins.

Other than that, sounds like a solid Survival/RPG-esque server. However, such external trades would have to fluctuate with the internal item-based economy pricing, to prevent one player or particular "field" (eg. mining) from gaining an extremely unfair advantage.

Yes I was actually researching sponge and realized it wouldn't work if I want my server 1.8 (Like I do)

And with the unfair advantage thing. If I'm getting what you mean correctly, players cannot trade items to the villagers in exchange for a rare block. They can only buy things with the rare block.

I will see how that balancing goes.

you could do this with working permissions on a player per player basis on what items they can sell with shop signs... would take a bit of work but could be done still

Ehh but I don't want any currency economy. Strictly trade based :)

This reminds me of a no-grief survival server I played on when I was 10. This would be great in terms of seeing it better optimized.
