I’m hosting a 1.8 classic PvP/minigame server and the gameplay always feels delayed no matter what I do. Even players with low, stable ping feel input delay, rods sometimes hang when you throw them, and random micro-freezes during fights.

TPS stays at 20, CPU usage is low, and Spark doesn’t show anything useful. I’ve already tried pretty much everything:
  • multiple dedicated servers & VPS providers
  • different server jars (ImanitySpigot3, PandaSpigot, Carbon, normal Spigot, etc.)
  • different Java versions (8, 11, 17, 21, etc.)
  • multiple Linux distros (currently on Ubuntu 24)
  • checked plugins, timings, network stats, configs, etc.

Same results on every setup, so it’s clearly not a simple hosting or jar issue. I just want smooth 1.8 PvP, but something feels off no matter what I use.

If anyone experienced with PvP servers can help me diagnose and fix this, I’m paying.
PM me or drop your Discord.

It can be hosting issue since the setups vary on different config bases and yes the microfreezes without any logs or errors at the time of that happening means that its a hosting error(either vps or dedi depends on what the server is hosted)

It can't be hosting issue because I tried Hetzner and OVH, right now I'm using OVH VPS (as I mentioned also I've gave Dedicated servers a try specifically Game-1 and nothing really changed)

Unfortunately 1.8 version is unsupported until you code everything by yourself, we tried this summer to host at 1.8 server and it was solid, we got 90 players at open without promoting. But things are slowly stopped working, water bucket was glitching, creeper eggs, tnt didnt want to blow and more things, pvp wasnt smootly. Until you have your developer which will code byself everything from scratch like minecadia, saico, you have no chance unfortunately.
Wish you all best and good luck!
