That's not true could only cost a few hundred bucks.
I disagree. If you want to open a hosting company that will be profitable and in it for the long haul, you are going to want to spend quite a bit more money than a few hundred dollars. Just think about. A few hundred will only get you a month or two worth of service (rented from like OVH and with no actual owned infrastructure) and you shouldn't expect to be profitable for quite a few months after launch (6 months+). If you only have a few hundred to spend on a host, you are going to fail. You at least need the security of a couple thousand to keep the host alive while you work on building enough revenue to become profitable.

I mean to have a GOOD hosting company. Not just some OVH / SYS resell shit

Id say maybe 3k to keep it up and running but for startup maybe 1.5k and $350-$500/month to keep it going.[DOUBLEPOST=1510717337][/DOUBLEPOST]

Maybe to say the least. I've seen some people start with a lousy $1k and now making big bank it all depends on your vision. Keep in mind defining hosting company has to come into play at some part. Hosting can be shared hosting from a E3-1270 dedi that cost less that $400 to buy and less that $70 a month to colo. That's less that 1.5k per year and who knows how much profit can be made from that one server.

But let me just say, how many hosts that open up every god damn week on here with only a couple hundred dollars and fail within the first few months? A lot. Having the extra security of money along with the vision will help stack your cards towards success.

Don't listen to these people who associate themselves with failed companies. Go for your goals, make a plan and you'll be okay. A lot of people will define you by if you own the hardware or not which is an okay standpoint to have.. however people also need to realize those need to be managed too if you do end up reselling, so it may cost less but you still need to keep your clients happy. Huge companies resell all the time just to get into new locations, don't let people bash you for doing reselling. 9 time of 10 they have purchased from a host or a company in general that resells anyway.

Funding is important, make sure you have a plan for that. I would suggest writing up a business plan and finding proof of concept before anything.
