Hi, so as most of you guys saw on top of the thread I wanted advice on how to lose weight. As long as I can remember I’ve always been the chubby kid, not the outrageously obese kid but overweight enough to notice. I’m currently 161 and 5’8 some people say that’s good and some say it’s bad either way I’m pretty chubby, and I need advice on how to lose weight. I’ve tried multiple times losing weight the most I’ve gotten is down 10 pounds which I just lost a few weeks ago. But after dieting and trying to lose weight I go back to my old habits and just eat a shit ton. If anybody has lost weight before and has advice on what they did to lose it I’d appreciate either a dm or just post here on what you did to keep going and what you did to lose weight.

Side note I was very hesitant to post this as I’m very self conscious about my weight and don’t really like to talk about it. Anyways I’d appreciate it if you don’t make fun of me or whatever thanks In advance.

It's healthy to lose 1-2 pounds a week and never to exceed that.

Don't diet by starving yourself because that's poor dieting. Diet just means the food you intake on a daily basis. Avoid buying junk food and if your parents buy junk food then stray away. Don't get tempted. Journey to losing weight is essentially motivation and self-discipline...

Regarding starving yourself. I don't mean by just not eating anything. I mean, if your body is hungry and you only feed it bits then that's basically starving yourself. You'd just retain the fat.

I hear that it's easier to gain muscles when you have more weight to kill rather than being skinny where you have to gain weight to gain muscles. So, you can use that to your advantage.

Eat tons of vegetables and fruits. Cut out food that has a bunch of unknown ingredients. Cut out food that has high fructose corn syrup or any -ose. Always check the food labels before proceeding to eat anything. Eat the suggested servings.

When you're bored... Don't think about food. Distract yourself and when you eat, make sure you aren't on your phone while eating because you just eat subconsciously without thinking.

If you want some more tips, then feel free to let me know because I got a bunch from my health class that I'm currently forced in this year. =P

From experience, you're at a fine weight. Start building muscle, losing weight for you will only make your body look worse.

edit: if anyone else here is looking to lose weight easiest ways are to:

Set a reasonable goal, don't expect to burn off all your weight instantly, make milestones accordingly.

Count your calories, this played a major role on staying on track with losing weight in my own experience. Find out what your calorie intake should be and stick to it. Try to substitute unhealthy foods for fruits, or vegetables.

Exercise also helps of course, but this only applies when you need to be burning calories. For a long while I was eating too much, or not burning enough to exercise was really helping speed up the process on losing weight. Exercising too much is also bad, along with eating too little. You can be burning too many calories and your body could think you're starving yourself.

edit2: Also, another major thing, don't overthink ANYTHING. Don't think you need to count your calories in a notebook. I've had multiple friends who've lost weight and they have not bothered to count calories at all, just tons of exercise, and eating reasonably.

Thanks for all the tips, ye when I think I’m hungry I usually just drink water, or have a banana. It’s like I lose weight so easily, but then I got back and just stuff myself with Doritos and shit.[DOUBLEPOST=1521001320][/DOUBLEPOST]

No It’s so weird I’ve seen picture of people same night and weight and they look so skinny. For some reason I’m actually really chubby compared to them, I don’t get it really.

Could set x amount of calories you wish to eat a day. Divide it into x meals and go from there.

Well, another thing you could do is... Eat like, a fuck ton of healthy shit that's not processed or pre-made. Then like, treat yourself once in a while with whatever junk food you like moderately. Do not binge. Then slowly, remove them permanently from your diet and only have them on special occasions.

It's like a simple way to motivate yourself to reward yourself. Gotta keep it a balance. Can't eat too many bags of Doritos with only a few vegetables. Plus, don't want to torture yourself by eating tons of vegetables with only like, 1 Dorito even though it's ideal. Though, we're humans.

If you've already lost a reasonable amount of weight (35+ lbs) it could be loose skin. If it is, don't bother losing more weight, it will do literally nothing.

I used to be 170 now 160, I’ve only lost 10 pounds and I have no loose skin. I see picture of people same height and weight but super skinny. For some reason I’m pretty chubby so my goal weight is 140

Average weight for a male (assuming you are male) with your height is roughly 155 - 185. Don't think you need to lose anything, trust me you don't regardless of how you look. I'd really recommend gaining muscle and not focusing on losing any weight.

feel free to start a pm if you'd like to continue the convo.

You should probably eating like 2500 calories a day at maintenance level give or take. In order to lose weight, you have to eat in a calorie deficit, plain and simple (Which should be around 2000 calories). Don't starve yourself because that will just result in more muscle loss than fat. Eat in a small calorie deficit, but try to keep your protein high so you can retain muscle (If that is your goal). Understand the macros in the food you eat as well! If you eat calorie dense foods such as potatoes, you will feel full by it, yet only eat a smaller amount of calories. If you do eat in a calorie surplus (More than you should), then try to fit in some cardio (which you should be doing everyday anyways) to burn off some of those calories.

I mean I haven't done this but I would.
You probably couldn't do this but anyways if you had the space or funds...

Buy a treadmill and then put your computer on it ( if it isn't flat then you're going to need to make something out of pvc piping or something yourself ) if you have a laptop. Then watch a show or play a game while walking.
That way you walk and have fun at the same time ;D

6'0, not much muscle mass, went from 220 to 170 in about 10 months and continued down to 135 (+10 in muscle = 145) gradually over the next 2 years.
What I noticed is your stomach expands and shrinks. If you try to eat as little as possible for a few days (the more often you do it - i.e. after Thanksgiving, Xmas, etc - the easier it becomes) without starving yourself, your stomach will shrink down really small. Once that happens you can last the morning without eating anything expect a granola bar. Have a light lunch in the early afternoon, like half a sandwich. Small snack in late afternoon. Fruit is usually a good option, yogurt etc. A light dinner in early evening. Eggs or pasta or whatever, just not a lot. Then a light second dinner later in the evening (if you go to sleep at like 12, around 9 or 10 would be good).
You don't have to eat super healthy like salad and shit. But try to avoid unhealthy options like pizza and chocolate. You're just trying to balance your calories. If you're consuming less calories than you burn in a day, you will lose weight. Try to choose good calories though. A 300 calorie sandwhich (protein and stuff) is much better than a 300 calorie dessert (fat and sugar).
Once you've gotten your stomach to shrink it will be very easy to fill up on small amounts of food plus you won't even be hungry that much anyways.
Also try to cut out soda and dessert. Try to get used to drinking flavored 0cal water or 0cal/0sugar sodas.

Depending on your metabolism you should see results, but exercise may also be needed. I didn't do much but if you have time do some cardio. Focus on keeping your heart rate up. Look online for cardio calculators.

Note that I'm not a nutritionist or dietitian, but this is all just from my own experience.

What I was doing is eat 400 calorie breakfast 3 hours later 100 calorie bar 3 hours later 400 calorie lunch 3 hours bar again 3 hours later 400 lunch stop eating at 6.

Reading some responses I see a lot of people say focus on building muscle.
I'm not a trainer or anything, but from my learnings, muscle is built by simply tearing (ripping - that's why it's called "getting ripped") the muscle fibers of that muscle. When they heal (over the next 24-48 hours) they rebuild ontop of eachother, causing the muscle to "build" and become bigger and hold more weight.
Doing chest workouts if you got a lot of fat on your chest may end up just causing the muscle to build on your pecs, making breast fat just stick out more since it’s on top of the muscle, making things look even worse.
Obviously you can’t build muscle if you’re not eating, so you may want to consult an actual physician about this.
Also commenting on my reply - if you do end up not eating enough, your body will enter starvation mode and will hold onto all of your fat. That’s why you want to have 4-5 small meals a day to prevent this, while still remaining under 1500cal or whatever goal you want.

Additionally, lifting weights doesn’t burn many calories, only increasing your heart rate will do this. Of course your heart rate goes up when weight training, but cardio is your best option for keeping your heart rate up.

Sounds similar. Some people eat breakfast and some people don’t. If you can, try not to eat much in the morning except maybe a granola bar. Can’t say for sure if it will help but would be worth a try. But again, depends on the calorie type. If that 400 calories is a slice of pizza, replace with something healthier.

So I should stick to the diet and do cardio?
Yea, running, aerobics, cycling, swimming. All good cardio. Anything that makes you sweat (except swimming? Water is wet Kappa) and keeps your heart rate up.
When I started hs it was recommended 30 mins a day. Seems like the standard is now down to 10 mins a day, but probably just to entice lazy people to at least do something.[DOUBLEPOST=1521003493][/DOUBLEPOST]Also buy some general “men’s daily” vitamins or whatever. Should help supplement certain nutrients you may be missing during your dieting.

I'm at the same situation bro... I'm 5'7 but im 185. I'm just going to start during the summer and just do cardio and weights everyday until I can maintain my weight. I have to lose 40 pounds but I think within a 3-4 span it's possible, or maybe even shorter if i watch what I eat. I'm starting to feel symptoms of diabetes which is REALLY REALLY BAD and i haven't told my parents because I don't want to be diagnosed with diabetes forever and always have to take insulin levels and cut myself. I just get envious because some kids can eat so much yet they stay underweight but at the same time I just eat because I like it and not because I'm hungry sometimes, and a low metabolism can be a good and bad thing, and it can be a good thing because you're less hungry (which I've experienced, but again I just eat when I can). My genetics have a lot to do about it because it's not a lot of the Mexican's diet its more of their metabolism, it's slow, so that's where the stereotype of fat mexican kids come from.

If your close to diabetes I suggest starting now before it’s to late. Not that I’m an expert or anything
