Hey guys,
So unfortunately, I am on a macbook air (sucks I know), I love windows so much more, so I bought myself parallels and since I have a PC, just loaded windows 10 onto my laptop.

Only problem is that the performance is really bad on the windows since I have 8GB of RAM and an i5.

I want to know if there is a way to buy a separate device which BOOSTS my computers power. So it'd be like a thing I plug in to at home and it gives my laptop more computing power.

Alienware has done something similar for their laptops, which is how I got the idea.

Hope someone can help!

Thanks :D

You cannot do this since it is their software they put on it which is private
Is there a way for me to build a separate mini PC with low specs that would help boost my laptop just like that?

You would be better off selling the mac and buying a pc.. just saying. Even more so as you can get a really nice laptop for the price of a mac.
It's a school laptop so I can't... :(

But, PCs are better, period.

Windows 10 runs really bad because its genuinely bad...

8GB RAM + i5 isn't actually too bad, since you have a mac I will assume your running a SSD, so your probably actually just lacking a 'decent' graphics card.

As for your performance, the only thing you can 'plug-in to boost performance' that I know of is a (external) graphics card. If you don't know much about computer hardware then this could get interesting..

When do you notice 'bad performance'?
- When playing games like X
- When using X applications
- Pretty much all the time, even when not running anything

Or you can just use Bootcamp and install Windows 10. I did it. Works like a charm but the battery life will decrease by about 30% though.

- When playing games like CSGO, Minecraft (higher settings)
- When using Photoshop (it runs fine on mac, just when I run it through windows it's slow just becasue I'm running the mac OS and the windows OS at the same time) applications

I didn't know there was such thing as an external graphics card, but that sounds awesome.

Ik I have windows 10, just it runs really shitty
Windows 10 is running badly because you're virtualizing it. Installing it alongside OS X will natively use your CPU/RAM, and it will be way faster. Right now, OS X and Windows 10 are running simultaneously and using the same resources. This is very ineffective for what you're trying to do.

Boot Camp will let you choose to boot either Windows or OS X whenever you start your computer, so you can quickly switch between them.

Ah that's helpful. Thanks SO MUCH.

I still want more power just for gaming so I guess that's my next question.

There's no way to do what you're asking with a Mac. Alienware laptops are made to work with external GPUs; Macs don't have the same components or ports.

There has been discussion of an Apple monitor with a separate GPU, but nothing confirmed and certainly nothing out yet. Plus such a system probably wouldn't even work with older Macs.

If you 'like' OSX I would advise using it for photoshop.
If photoshop runs fine on OSX but not on windows its probably windows fault (more on that below).

I mentioned Windows was bad, I find it likes to just enable/disable all sorts of things that give you bad performance. There is a bunch of things you can do to your settings to make windows run significantly faster, feel free to DM me if you want a list of all the things you can check to make sure windows is running how I would advise anyone to run it.

As for the external graphics card, I was looking at setting myself up with a decent Mac + external graphics card a while back. Since a higher end macbook has plenty of ram/cpu/storage performance, but not much in the way of graphics. ajthemacboy seems to think that a mac doesn't have the ports however I believe the only port required is apples thunderbolt port.

What's that? Link :)
https://www.usbkill.com/usb-killer/8-usb-killer.html

"When plugged into a device, the USB Killer rapidly charges its capacitors from the USB power lines. When the device is charged, -200VDC is discharged over the data lines of the host device. This charge/discharge cycle is repeated many times per second, until the USB Killer is removed.

Simply put: used on unprotected equipment, the USB Killer instantly and permanently disables unprotected hardware."
