Productivity is my absolute top priority. Time is the only thing that cannot be replaced. That means that any time I spend fighting with software or trying to find workarounds is time I am not being productive.
I currently work with 5 different systems. My home workstation setup is a specked out Windows 10 PC. At my office, I have a 2016 high end iMac, I use the Macbook Pro with Touch-bar for day to day tasks, I use my Surface Pro for Note taking and my MSI Gaming system for workstation tasks while I am not in the city. Workstation tasks for me typically included 5K Photoshop, Lightroom and After Effects, Premiere Pro editing, and on more rare occasions Cinema 4D rendering, Solidworks 3D Printing Design and of course a little GTA, CS:GO, COD or some Indies when I need a brain break. Each system has it's pros and cons which I will be going over below.
Workstation
My setup is top of line, i7, GTX 1080, 32 GBs of RAM. It can handle anything I throw at it, I never have to worry about performance. But, Windows 10 is horrible in it's communication infrastructure. Most of my clients prefer email and frankly most mail clients I've used for Windows have been lack luster at best. I cannot answer phone calls or texts from my workstation so I often find myself having my Macbook or phone on my desk ready to answer and respond to them. Overall it's a 9/10.
iMac
The iMac is fast, responsive, easy to navigate and is great for responding to emails, web work or general communication tasks. The performance is good enough, but once I start running out of steam and want to take a break, it's absolutely hopeless, barely managing 60 FPS in CS:GO. Nothing beats being able to respond to texts and calls on the system, but the single determining factor in me not from switching to an iMac from my workstation is the lack of a proper GPU. 8/10.
MSI Laptop
It's well built, sturdy, heavier than the sun, but it performs amazingly. I primarily use this when im out of the city, and it's performance makes it a strong competitor to any device I could use. Though, I run into the same problem I do with my workstation, I cannot communicate well from it. The whole device is (relatively speaking) smaller. With 37 inches less of screen real estate available, the process of getting things done generally just slows down. 7/10.
Surface Pro
The perfect Coffee Shop/School Device. The pen is the greatest thing ever, note taking with OneNote or Edge is great. This is only specked with an i5, so it's terrible at anything demanding performance but it's really good at the task it's built for. It's also a great MC-Market machine! 7/10
Macbook Pro
The Macbook Pro is a high quality laptop, it's got the trademark exceptional quality of Apple, it's great for emails, texting, life stuff, and it keeps up with the light work relatively well, though it gets sluggish when I try and play hardball with it. It's great for social settings, and I find myself using the touch bar so much more than I expected I would, especially while doing light video editing and browsing the web. 8/10
In essence, if Apple puts a real GPU in their computer, or Microsoft figures out how to let me text people from my computer, they've got my loyalty.
