Make a Rule Against Advertising via PMs

Please make a rule against advertising via PM. It's extremely annoying, and very disturbing.

I've wanted a rule forbidding PM solicitations for such a long time. Agreed.

I was thinking making it a specification of the spamming rule. That we don't allow PM soliciting.

If you specify it to where it's actually noticeable, not just make it a violation of the spam rule.

yep. I'll usually either ignore them or laugh in their faces, but given the state of shoutbox in terms of advertising, it may become a very large problem in the future.

This annoys me way more than SB ads, SB ads are public while PMs aren't, and I don't expect people PMing me to buy their product.

I think it's a pretty good thing xD I even remember me doing it 5-6~ months ago lol, idk seems pretty professional, it's like sending an email (annoying but might come in handy ya know)

I think its alright for people to PM other people for advertisement.
Now Spamming and Mass Messaging is something else.
If you take the time and send each member a PM that isn't the same or closly resmbles any other PM, should be allowed.
Now sending people 'Please check this out -thread link-" would be considered spam as it holds no value.

So you wouldnt mind receiving a dozen advertisements? I can ignore people in SB, or choose not to look at SB. The only form of 'advertisement' I would accept is offering a service that is immediately relevant to their role on the site.
For me, that would be something like a thread design, renders of my work or something that I made a requesting thread for.
What i do not under any circumstances wish to see is something like a request to buy an account, commission a plugin or bullshit like that that i have never asked for nor implied desire for. Warning to anyone who thinks to send me a message like that, I will neg-rep in response to any advertisement not directly related to my services here.

Yes, but that applies specifically for me. I've already received several PMs offering to sell me accounts and shit, despite the fact that whenever I get the chance I shout to the wind that I am absolutely not interested. Unsolicited advertising should be banned. And yes, I'm aware that this is incredibly difficult to enforce.
Maybe we should ban PM advertising and, after profile privating stops being a thing, allow profile messages instead? Not sure.
Or we could set up a thing where on your profile you can state what sort of products you're potentially interested in, and people looking to advertise via PM must check your profile before sending?
That would be sort-of like the Yes/No stickers they have in the Netherlands, which tell people delivering ad magazines whether any sort of ads are undesirable, or just the un-targeted ones, or all ads are welcome. I personally feel like that would be the best thing.
It would also severely limit mass/spam advertising via PM, since you'd need to check out individual's preference before sending the 'ad'.
