Make all active profiles public

So I was thinking about this...
I personally don't really see a reason for a member to hide his profile.

What do you guys think about making all profiles public and removing the option to private it.

Two things.

1) There's a suggestion for a page to show recent name changes.
2) Name changes aren't that big of a deal. But people put information on their profiles that they may not want the world to see and I personally believe that everyone has a right to privacy. I don't think that right should be taken away, just because Ajdin doesn't see a reason for someone to make their profile private.

I'll be very disappointed if this is implemented.

That's why I'm just asking for opinions.
This is just a idea that popped into my head.

Profiles being public aren't really a threat to privacy, considering everyone's posts are public. I think enabling privacy like this just perpetuates toxic members of the community to continue shetposting & trashing threads *cough* butt buddies of mcm *cough*

Posts are public. Personal information contained on profiles is not.

How about this? What if you decide to make your profile private, other profiles will be private to you? I think that would be a fair compromise.

Thoughts on that Ajdin? I know there's some addons you could install to accomplish that.

This is literally what I thought about too. I think that seems fair for all users.

Don't want people to see your profile? Okay, you can't see theirs too?
Like people seeing your profile? You can see the ones that have their profile set to public.

There are also most likely would be a cooldown on this so people don't switch just to check a profile.

Might not be a bad idea to do that for online status as well. Perhaps that's for another thread though.

I mean couldn't that easily by passed by the people who use a private profile by simply changing it whenever they want to see someone's profile and once they finish right back to private?

I suppose it could, but their profile would still be public for that moment.

I honestly do not think people will bother doing that, it would be pretty pointless as they could still see what they did before they went private

Totally agree. It also can help scammers block a de-vouch.

Some members can delete posts from their profile. This suggestion wouldn't do anything to change that.

I'm saying that they can limit their profile so that someone can't post on it.

This suggestion wouldn't change that either. This suggestion is only suggesting to make profile viewing public.

People should always have the option to hide their profiles if they want. I personally keep mine public because it allows members to check my vouches before doing deals but if someone wants to keep it private that's there choice.



That is an extremely hypocritical statement considering your profile is private. Are you saying you should have the right to look at other members' profiles, but they shouldn't be able to look at yours?

This is like the whole Hilary Clinton email scandal all over again.

It's not hypocritical at all. Did you even read my post? I think supreme and premium users are entitled to privacy because they donated money to the site. Yes, I am part of that group. Lots of other people are too.

Can you just leave it how it is lol this isn't a pressing issue. I don't see why it suddenly needs to be changed for no reason other than it was just a random idea that popped in your head.

And what personal information is contained on profile that couldn't be controlled?

Please don't remove this option. If someone is problematic on the site and needs to be monitored, you can manually make theirs public but I think we should all have a right to a reasonable amount of privacy. I don't like the idea of people rooting through my profile to find my recent activity, see when I was last online, see which posts I like/dislike, etc. It makes it easier for people to rate spam me and I just don't want to deal with any of that.

If this happens, you can easily report it to a staff member.
