Hey guys!

I'm creating a new social media platform which takes inspiration from Discord and Facebook. The idea is that we will combine key features from these platforms. (see the following examples);
  • From Discord - We'll take the core layout and design, creating an intuitive experience over 140 million users are already familiar with, we'll allow you to customise the colour, feel and background of this to make it truly your space, allowing you to achieve more focus, either for playing games with friends or building an online business (Two current MAJOR uses of Discord)
  • From Facebook - Facebook is currently paving the way for the metaverse (whether you like it or not) so we're taking this level of innovation and applying it to our platform. Our platform will always be engineered to be compatible with the most recent trends, currently, we're working on support for NFTs. We'll also take their Avatar idea which would replace your traditional profile picture, from our research people on Discord typically prefer an avatar over a profile picture of themselves.
Summary of Key Features (not exhaustive);
  • Advanced Customisation of the app so the app will feel truly like your personal space
  • More Community Management features, no reliance on third party bots
  • Be able to take payments right from the application (We're experimenting this idea with advanced research and consultation with the FCA)
  • Clean and modern layout, intuitive and easy to use
  • Upload an NFT Inventory from existing NFT Wallets (MetaMask, OpenSeas etc)
  • Others can view your NFT Collection
  • VOIP Voice Calls, Video Calls, Group Calls
  • Much more planned, would be happy to discuss privately with people (Don't want to give all of my ideas away)

We're currently in the design phase of the web application, we will also introduce a desktop application and in the near future, Android and IOS applications.

Please see attached two images of the same app page, just one with default customisation and one with a background implemented (Skyrim is my favourite game of all time)

The idea sounds good on paper but, in practicality, has some kinks in its armor. To me, this sounds like a Discord that allows Better Discord and has NFT trading features, nothing too revolutionary that would gain enough buzz to rival Discord and Facebook.

Discord could add these features themselves if they wanted to but have reasons not to, so I'm not sure if this is as great an idea as it sounds. Just leaving my input here sounds like another bright idea that'll eventually go up in smoke. Creating a social media platform requires a lot more funding, information, etc., than you might initially think.

However, best of luck!

Thanks for the feedback!

From the screenshots I have shared here, I can see why you've made these points. There are alot more screens, all with intuitive designs that connect seamlessly together.

Discord as an organisation, move very slowly. It has taken them years to implement basic features requested by the community, I believe this is largely due to their over-complicated infrastructure which causes development time to rise exponentially as they add new features.

With Meta in it's burning state and Discord itself in the trenches, I believe now is the right time to capitalise on both ideas and put them under one roof. Just like Zoom did at the start of the Pandemic when they seen Microsoft and Google compete over market cap for Video Conferencing.

I welcome your input however!

design looks cluttered
Thanks for the input! I've understood your feedback and now corrected the left side of the screen which is indeed rather cluttered.

UI has bad UX just from the looks.
You are basically copying discord UI, which can get you in trouble.

Also, what makes you think you can compete with such an already vast and extensive industry? If it were this easy to break into the market, a lot more people would've.

The UX works seamlessly, connecting between 'panels' very well.

The resemblance to Discord is very slim and you could argue that many social media platforms are copying Discord, because that design is what is intuitive and what users want, there is a reason why it's done. The only thing I've 'copied' is the message bar. Which is easily changed.

From further checking, Discord hasn't patented their UI, so no, I won't get in trouble.

There are a number of ways I can compete with Discord, the main USP for this app is that it's more personalised to you, making it feel like your space. We'll also have supportive features for individuals' NFT wallets. Amongst others.

Your idea seems pretty neat, yet feels like it requires to be more triggering. I am no expert, but why don't you take a paper writing help to review your plan structure? It mainly deals with financial insights, so you might be able to discuss the features with professionals.
