So I have been a server owner multiple times, but all of my servers have failed, some of them containing custom plugins, custom builds and much more unique features.

But, I have never gotten a full donation, I was working with this guy once, and he started the server, and within the first month, he gained over 400 dollars.

Can someone please give me advice, now keep in mind I have a very small budget, so we can forget paying youtubers. I might be able to afford to advertise on discord servers but thats it.

Is there anyway I could get a playerbase without a budget?

Please help.

Simply put, yes you can. It just takes more work and time, if you have or can build up contacts with more known figures and slowly work your way around and get to know people that have access to a larger public voice it helps greatly and how business works these days most the time. Sometimes its who you know not what you know.

As with setting up the server, there are many many many servers available to join now and larger networks such as Hypixel, Hive etc who have generated a large player base who hold a good standing and run time. Looking at how those networks run, function and manage them self, breaking down the inner workings really can influence what you need to do.

A larger part of servers now to becoming truly successful and rise quickly is from coming into the game with a unique idea, it could be a revamped idea or completely new concept. One thing I've noticed allot with the process of developing my still in dev network is that most people enjoy something that they can relate with and grasp the ideas and concepts quickly but still bring something fresh into the server for them to explore.

If you don't have a budget (or it's just enough to keep the server), you can start by using the "mouth to mouth" method. Tell your friends on Skype you have a server, post it on different Minecraft forums. You need to spread the word, and it's not something which will gain you a lot of players and it will take some time, but if people like your server, then they will invite their friends and those friends will invite their friends, and you'll be able to build a small playerbase, which you can expand over time.

A good tip: It's much easier to gain players if you have the server because you think it's fun and you have a great time building, and not because you want to earn money - as players will feel that.

-Lots of smaller youtubers 250 subs would upload videos for items on the server or a rank.
-Free advertising slots for a month are good to start.
-Open discords work to advertise as well.

Thanks a lot for the advice, I have a friend with 2k subs and a friend with 300 subs, both have very active subscribers, the 300 subs usually gains 400 or more views, and the 2k gets 700 or more views
