Would such an idea be allowed? For example: A lottery that all server users can enter and possibly win, but donors have a slightly higher chance of winning? Would it be EULA compliant?

the fact that you have donor ranks makes me assume you are not eula compliant lol

I don't even have a server right now, I am planning everything. Besides, I wanted to sell ranks which provide bundles of cosmetics and such rather than selling individually. Also, if I wasn't EULA compliant, why would I bother asking for advice on it? The assumptions are real. If you're not going to help answer my question, please leave my thread.

fine to answer your question, If you give donors a higher chance of winning it is giving players an advantage over their non donor friends and will break the EULA.

That's what I thought until I saw PrimeMC's donor store. They are now "EULA Compliant" yet they are using the higher chance system. An example is the Keys they sell. You can purchase keys which when right clicked, send a broadcast to the server, notifying the use of the key and a crate drops. However, the crate drops next the donor who used the key, giving him a higher chance of receiving the contents. It's not as if the key gives the contents to a random online user.

Chances are your server wont be big enough for mojang to care anyway, unless your hitting hundreds of players then you should be safe, and even if they lock onto you they will send you a warning email and time to change. if you havnt started a server yet id say go semi compliant so if it ever happens you can change without a big loss. though most eula compliant servers are dying from no revenue

Depends on what can be won in the lottery. If the only items you can buy are pets, coloured names etc., then this is fine, in fact you don't even need to allow non-paying players as this does not affect game play. However, if you win gameplay affecting perks or even money which can be used to buy gameplay affecting perks, this violates the EULA.

That's what I'm trying to achieve. I could just make the most out of it and just go heavy P2W until I receive that warning. I have been developing some plugins which are EULA compliant like a xenforo forum sync that gives a user rewards on the forums and such, but I might just try make the most out of the server P2W until that warning occurs.[DOUBLEPOST=1464082797][/DOUBLEPOST]

That has given me quite a good idea actually, thanks for your reply!

it depends what you can win. If it's just cosmetics it's allowed. If it's kits and weapons it's not.

PrimeMC have done the same thing but in a similar format, yet they got unblocked? You donate for a key drop which everyone on the server has the possibility to get but the player that donated has the crate key spawned close to them, giving them a higher chance to unlock a crate with game-changing items.

Your link doesn't work for me. Let me explain, here is their package: https://gyazo.com/067f480660b7c0f96468f0c9f91c32ca

It specifically says that everyone has the chance to get the key drop, the buyer may not have the chance to get it. It says that it gets dropped after it is right-clicked "near the key summoner's location" meaning that they would be right there and closer than everyone else, pretty much giving them a higher chance of receiving the game-changing items in the crate. Pretty much the same concept as a lottery idea I had above. Sure, it may say "near" but from my personal experiences on the server, it is dropped with 10 blocks and if they weren't meant to have a higher chance of getting the key, they may have just said 'purchase this key for a random person on the server'. If I have got this wrong, please do explain it to me.

Okay. That's not against the EULA. It's still just a drop. Anybody could be next to them.

Correct, that's why I compare it to my lottery idea. A donor in my lottery would have a higher chance of winning the prize (The summoner of the key in this case) but the other players on the server who aren't a donor would still be able to enter and have a chance to win the prize (The rest of the player's trying to get the key).

In theory, wouldn't it be an acceptable, EULA compliant idea when comparing it to the key drop?[DOUBLEPOST=1464090268][/DOUBLEPOST]

I'd recommend doing crate keys for all, that's been working out for me in my store:

Is your store fully EULA compliant?

We're mostly compliant. Some things I let slide (/ptime, /fly), but for the most part we're compliant. If mojang press us to change our store slightly we will.

What are your experiences with cosmetic items? Do people actually purchase them?

if the lottery isnt using real world money it will be EULA compliant.
now if you are using some service such as enjin to run a lottery for webshop points that would be outside of the minecraft EULA and wouldnt apply. one way i managed to find the loophole in the EULA to give ranks with other perms was through Enjin. I would set up a webshop and made it in two ways. you would sign up on enjin and for every 10 minutes in game you earned 1000 points for use with the webshop. then i added the ability to buy the webshop points (again these points aren't a actual item in minecraft) they then could redeem the webshop points for god items and whatnot.

That's quite smart actually.
