TECH NEWS
On the 15th of this month, July 2020, Twitter suffered a large-scale hack of high-profile, verified accounts through their administrative tools, which were accessed by an attacker. 20+ Twitter accounts, including those of Joe Biden, Bill Gates, Kanye West, Elon Musk, and Barack Obama, were hacked and used to promote a Bitcoin doubling scam. Nearly $120,000 in BTC (12.86900629 BTC, to be exact) was scammed over two addresses before they were locked. These hacks took place over 2-3 hours, the latter half of which included verified accounts being unable to tweet and password/email resets being disabled site-wide. The current suspects include a user on a competitor site (u g o, iykyk) by the name of Chaewon, as well as a SIM swapper by the name of PlugWalkJoe. As a result of the hack, the FBI is looking into Twitter as a matter of national security, and the company's stock dipped by 4%. The story is still very fresh, so new details are always coming out.
