They added:

Beetroot & Beetroot soup.

Betroot , Beetroot seeds and Beetroot Soup.

They added the shield slot: Sadly there's no shields to show.

They added arrows that apply potions effects on hit.

There's a so called Chorus Fruit and a Popped Chorus Fruit. They can be obtained by the Chorus Plant.

You can only eat the Chorus Fruit (on the right) it restores 2 hunger and teleports you randomly!
New blocks : Chorus Plant and Chorus Flower

The Chorus Plant seems to grow:

New block Endstone bricks and end rod.

New blocks called "Purpur"

Purpor block, Purpur Pillar , Purpur Stairs, Purpur Slab.

New item: Dragon Head.

You can't place it however you can wear it. When walking the head is animated.

Yeah, I thought that two arms would ruin the whole gameplay, but LeCat said its toggleable, so that's good. Not sure how to control two arms though, and also, maybe there will be a way for pvp servers to make a plugin which makes you permanently have one arm with toggling disabled. Anyway, apart from that, 1.9 sounds AWESOME!
